Do you think my friends pair will breed being only 7'' and 8''? their in a 24'' x 18''.

I have 100 tanks, most of them are over 175 ltrs, I breed lots of angels, Australian rainbows, Apistogrammas and catfish. In recent years I have bred Cichla Uaru pollini and balzanii. I am currently working with 1 pair of senegals 1 pair of dalhezi 2 pairs of endlicheri and I have a male ornate. I'm after a female ornate but they are hard to come by in Australia. Most adult Polys go for $500+ here because we cannot import them. The Senegal pair are at least 6 years old and have been spawning for about 4 years, the dalhezi spawned 3 times about 3 months ago but I think the male is too young so I didn't get any fry.

I can't say if they will spawn or not, 6 month old senegals can reach 9" if kept in a large tank. I believe they would have to be at least 2 years old to breed, if you don't know the history of the fish you can only guess at its age

my mate just heavily planted the tank with heaps of java fern,do you think it make them more comfortable to breed?

What do you use to soften the water and keep a neutral ph?

What is the water change schedule like for their tank?

Cohazard
Perth tap water is soft with a ph of about 7.5, I age the water for a week in a 20000 ltr heated pond with lots of plants and algae to clean the water. The bichir tanks get a 20% water change every week.

I use plastic mats to catch the eggs and for fry hiding places, my pair have spawned in a bare tank. If they are happy it's hard to stop them spawning
