Are you sure they only grow to 12 inches? Both of the parents grow to 3+ feet so I find it a little odd that their child would only grow to a third of their size.

Yes, I have several friends who had these years ago and all topped out at 12"

Mine are a little over 4" now, should be about 1.5 to 2 years to reach that size depending on your tank size and food schedule.
