Venomoid Snakes????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have no problems at all with properly done venomoids. However, I do have concern with the occasional false sense of security that comes with a venomoid. Venom glands are just modified salivary glands and there is still some debate in the research as to the amount of modification that has occurred in the other salivary glands in the snake. I learned this the hard way while being a dumba__. I took a significant bite from a Venomoid Inc. venomoid and within about 20 minutes started having VERY noticable neurological effects on the bitten appendage. Had I been someone with a history of severe allergic reactions the event could have been worse. As it was, after about 2 weeks the feeling came back to my lower arm and hand. But we got the necessary pictures of the snake and the book they are in has been published.

In response to the videos, that is the result of a back alley operation. More often than not they are done wrong and the venom glands will grow back in time. Again why I would ONLY deal with venomoid inc if and when it comes time to get a venomoid. At some point during my vet career I would like to learn how to do the procedure myself but more to know EXACTLY how it is done not to do it for other people.

The video said they were from venomoid inc.

You can't listen to people on YouTube. He doesn't show any proof it was from venomoid inc. The guy is probably just trying to scare people into thinking it does not remove venom glands.

The Kentucky Reptile zoo is a pretty legit organization. I believe them.

I agree. They are legit. The only problem is that those snakes aren't from Venomoid Inc. He never says they are and if you check the comments on the youtube page he says they're confiscated snakes so the person who did the surgery is unknown. Also, Venomoid Inc. snakes don't get that "deflated head" look that the snakes have in that video, due to the implants.

It does do a good job of demonstrating the potential danger, however.

Thank You Joe

Thats my main fear with venomoids. People try performing surgeries and not only fail but also can hurt the snake. I have heard good things about venomoid inc and i doubt they wouldn't completely remove the venom gland
