Venomous update

Love the snakes bro... Venomous is my passion but at this point in time I can't have them. I've dealt with them for years though and miss them so much. One big determining factor in me selling/donating my collection and I had a nice big collection was my black mamba bite that got me a 12k hele flight and TPW officer showing up at my door to see what all I had. Man just talking about it makes me wish I still had my eastern browns.....

yep, bites can be very expensive. I have never really been a fan of some of the big Australian snakes or the black mamba because they are so boring looking but are also some of the most dangerous. If I am going to get something that toxic, I am going to make sure that they are worth it to look at.

How did you get bit, I am interested in hearing the story if you don't mind telling it.

Boring looking? Hey now, to each his own. Perhaps this gentleman thinks your monocleds are boring? I do. They are considered one of the "beginner" cobras and the fact their quite common makes them boring to me. I personally think any of the Dendroaspis spp. are amazing creatures and part of their beauty and allure comes from just how dangerous they are. As for Aussie snakes, nothing is more impressive than a nice Tiger.

I know I know, what I said is sacrilege in the venomous community but I prefer something with color or an impressive display. I am a fan or the jamesons mambas but the blacks just look like a big black racer to me- except it can kill you.

As far as only having beginner species goes, you should keep in mind that I am still in college and even though I have been working with hots for a long time, I have only been keeping them for just over a year. So for all intents and purposes, I am a beginner with hots (but that is better than being a beginner and starting with a mamba and getting bit). Don't worry, my collection is growing and getting more interesting. I am keeping an ee out for some legionis and a Gila- those certainly are not common.

White Lipped Tree viper's are awesome, They have plenty of color and are very deadly, Snakeguy how could I convince my rents to let me get a snake? :naughty::naughty::naughty: I've got a 30g just layin around...

I have never heard of a white lipped bite being fatal. They are considered to have a mild venom.

It's a long story but the way my bit happened is I was trying to breed them. My male was just under 14 ft and the female was 10 ft. She had just done a molt and she didn't do to well (she was always a bad shedder). So since the male was ready to breed and she was being unresponsive I decided to shed her hopping that would help her. I put my gloves on got my tongs and hooks and started the adventure. My brother opened the cage and grabbed her with the tongs and so I went to grab her behind the neck and she had enough room to turn and bit no biggie got gloves on. Well it turned out that her fang was just long enough to puncture the skin on my left index finger just barely breaking the skin. I felt the poke put the snake in the cage pressure bandaged the bite and grabbed the venomous paperwork I had for care and stuff for the hospital and had my brother drive me to the hospital...
