Videos: Heros notatus breeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My pH is somewhere around 7.4 - 7.6 and the water has a TDS reading of like 200ppm, but all my wild cichlids have spawned. That includes angels, Laetacara, and Mesonauta. I haven't gotten my wild severums up to spawning age yet, but the tank-bred greens I have seem to like the water, too.

I hope I can say the same about my daemon someday :D

7. Dec. 16th. Woke up finding all the wigglers gone. No free swimming fry either. Went panic for about 5 seconds before I found them in a hole in the driftwood :D Parents are a lot more protective, maybe because the little ones are going to swim soon.

Water temperature has been 80F the whole time. I guess they wiggle for more than 4 days :)

lol I expected to see free swimming fry this morning. It's interesting that they didn't moved the fry for three days and suddenly decided to do so today.

My wild-caught Mesonauta usually move their fry a couple times in the 5 or so days it takes for them to go free-swimming. Mine hide their fry in the crooks of the driftwood just like your notatus did. :) I can't wait to see the cloud of fry with mom and dad. Congrats!

Thanks Ryan :) The fry started to wander off last night, but the parents were right there to catch them, chew a little (scary sight), and spit them back.

I can't understand why they chew them like that. It's a scary sight, then you're just waiting on them to turn and eat all of the fry :nilly:
