While availability of guns isn't the ONLY factor affecting gun murder (and suicide) rates, it's one of them.

Kinda old data, but I'd bet you get the idea:

Percent of households with a handgun, 1991 (1)

United States 29%
Switzerland 14
Finland 7
Germany 7
Belgium 6
France 6
Canada 5
Norway 4
Europe 4
Australia 2
Netherlands 2
United Kingdom 1

Handgun murders (1992) (2)

Handgun 1992 Handgun Murder
Country Murders Population Rate (per 100,000)

I don't live in the US, but the way i see it is, if to start off with no one had guns except for say law enforcement etc, then the chances of crooks getting hold of guns in the first place wouldn't be nearly as easy as it is now...

So while i agree that there is a slight chance that by letting average citizens owns guns will help keep violent crimes down a bit, it doesn't help control the amount of guns accessible to crooks on the street when they perform robberies etc since it means the crooks also have more access to guns too, especially if they rob a home that has guns laying around...

All I gotta say is Give an Idiot a gun and let em take each other out.

So, are you saying that those of us that choose to protect ourselves against the possibility of a violent attack are the same as the attacker? That type of nonsense will get your opinion disregarded by most everyone. Unless you are trolling...

You realize half the people that own guns won't answer any survey, and if they do won't admit that they own guns. So im sure those numbers only pertain to the people who answered the survey, or own registered guns.

Does not take into count waaay too many things to be useful. Long guns, illegal gun ownership(which makes up a majority of violent crime involving firearms), population diversity etc.

Violence should drop with gun sales up,.....common sense...obvious if you have a chanc eof getting shot while robbing someone itd make you think twice.

You're giving criminals too much credit. I don't think they research gun ownership data before committing crimes.

What if there's no violence crime committed because an armed citizen prevented it? The stat is wiped from the record book but you'd rather it escalated?

lolque?

My response was pointing out the fact that criminals aren't exactly researching gun purchase statistics. A social issue this complex has other factors. Perhaps gun ownership is up because there is a liberal president who is not popular with the other side and fears of strict gun laws are on the rise. Perhaps a liberal government means more benefits to would be criminals. There are many factors to take into consideration, societal issues run deep. Any data can be used to prove a point.

inb4 i'm anti gun lolz
