Violet Gobies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really? All of that stuff can be found at an LFS? Wow...I'd better pick some of that stuff up next time I go. I need to get more bloodworms anyway.

Here is one of mine. He's smiling at you. He is happy in the new bigger tank. I feed primarily flakes. I toss in some misc food every now and then.

Nice picture. I'd take a pic of mine doing his territorial display, but my camera is terrible. The flash always screws everything up, and when the flash is off, you can't see anything. The only way to actually get a good shot of anything is to take a video, which I might do. How big is the one in the picture?
Tawney, how long have you had the 12" one?

i had in at work for about 5 to 7 months in a 15 gal. now he is in a 100 gal. brackish since christmas

That is one of three and two are 13" long (this is one of them). I am expecting some growth soon as I just moved them to a tank twice the size and have added a larger variety of foods since finding this site. They used to only get flake food. I have had them over three years.

Yeah, three years sounds like a long time for 13". I'm glad you're doing something to boost their growth.
Everywhere you go, people will tell you that violet gobies are blind, or almost blind. I don't think this is true. Mine does everything in his power to keep me out of his territory. If I'm walking or sitting in front of the tank, he'll come out and display his fins at me, even standing up on his fused pelvic fins. Do any of yours do this? I've heard that males get more aggressive, so I think mine is a male. In that picture it looks like that friendly "smile" might actually be a territorial display.
I finally figured out how to get good pictures so I might have a couple on here later tonight.

This is one of Ying's (that's his name) baby pictures. In the background you can see my now deceased algae eater, Marbles. Ying 001.jpg
And, this is Ying now, saying the only thing he knows how to say: "Get off my property!" Ying 002.jpg Ying 003.jpg
"Peek-a-boo."

"Go away!"

I hope you like the pics.
