Dragon looks pretty good. Eventually will become monster. Mine seems to be a lot happier since raising salt levels.

Thanks :D I hope his activity level increases once he has a nice big brackish tank, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Any pictures of yours?

If you want to see your goby more during the daytime, you might want to give him a reason to come out: food. Around 7 inches he should start getting spots near the end of his tail. The pattern will move forward, consuming the iridescent bands of gold. Around 10 or 11 inches, no more gold bands. At least, that's what has happened in my experience.
Some good tankmates might be bumblebee gobies (I love those), OR knight gobies (they might eat BBGs). Livebearers like guppies or mollies work, but they reproduce quickly and can add a lot to the bioload eventually. Assuming you had a very large tank, you could probably have some land in it and keep mudskippers. If you go for the mudskippers, I would pick Indian mudskippers. They stay small and aren't as aggressive. I've read that ropefish are brackish, but they get pretty big and are bottom dwellers, so the goby might get territorial.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the info about the spots, I hadn't heard that :headbang2

As far as the tankmates I've researched both the knight gobies and bumblebee gobies. Both are pretty cool (I think the knights are stunning in person) but I've read that both can be territorial and aggressive. Same with Scats and Monos. I've been thinking about the indian mudskippers since I saw someone's set-up with skippers and an archer, but it depends on the tank size I'll be able to afford. Other than that I'm leaning towards Etroplus maculatus (Orange Chromides) as they're supposed to be peaceful, but I don't know as much as I'd like to about them. Might see if I can find something out about them in the cichlid forums.

Why do all the brackish species have to be aggressive :irked:

Bumblebee gobies are a little aggressive, but they're way too small to bother a violet goby. They don't even seem to realize it's another fish at times. I've seen my BBG's sitting on my violet goby before. I also wouldn't think that knight gobies are too aggressive to be kept with something that's larger than them.
