Violet Gobies

Mine are very friendly. As soon as I walk up to the tank they start grabbing at the water waiting for food to fall. They have never been aggressive to me at all - only the two big ones to each other which stopped as soon as I put them in the larger tank. I don't think 3 years and their size is off. I have yet to see any bigger than mine.

Mine is ten inches after two years, and that was mostly on algae wafers. Since I started feeding bloodworms he's grown about a half an inch. Clare's gobies were up to 20" in one year, but that was on her special diet (and by that I do not mean she was feeding them table scraps). I'm hoping Ying's new diet and a brand new 125 gallon tank will boost his growth.
At that size, your goby never displays at you? Maybe it's a female. Here's a neat thing you might want to try. If you put your hand into the tank, and try touching the fish very gently. The first couple of times I did that it scared Ying and he moved, but then he started approaching my hand. When I pet him, he lines up by my hand and ungulates against it, like to individual gobies might do. Is that how the two big gobies acted?

How big is Ying now? He is SO pretty. I have one about 6 inches right now. I love him/her. My baby loves bloodworms. I swear I the little bugger tried to eat a feederfish but that was only once when one got near him I haven't had a chance to watch since the first time.

Ying is about 10" long right now. That's including his tailfin. His head is a little over an inch long. I'm trying to get him to eat brine shrimp to help boost his growth.
Just recently I've noticed a small bump (urogenital papilla?) between his anus and anal fin. I wonder if this could provide some way of sexing the fish while he's still alive. Chesterfieldzoo, you said you have two that are 13" long. They should be mature enough to have the bump. Could you watch them when they're sticking to the wall to see if they have it, and if there are any differences between the two? I'd really appreciate it if you did.

I have never tried to pet them or touch them. I have only let the angelfish and goldfish nibble on my fingers. I pet the rays - although I got bit by one that got overzealous. I hand feed the koi.
I will look at them tomorrow and see if I can tell anything. The two big ones fight. Open mouthed, lunging and trying to eat each other type of activity. They have stopped now that they are moved. I also never see the two big ones hang on the glass, only the little one. I am curious to see if they get bigger in the next few months in the bigger tank. They are not agressive with the other fish and will cuddle in the cave with the leaf fish or the polypterus eel thing.

Thanks in advance for looking at the fish. I know it may feel weird to be staring at fish parts.
The open mouthed thing kind of sounds like something Ying has done to me. When I was "petting" him he went under the driftwood and when I touched his tailfin his head suddently appeared and nudged my finger. He didn't really bite, but kind of head-butted me.

Here's my Goby, currently in a FW growout. Got him in Feburary for my birthday at ~5", now about 6.5".

Not that I've noticed, but honestly its very rare that I get to examine him without the lights off. He pretty much just sits in his cave :(

For now hes in with my neon & glowlight tetras. I'm still debating what I'll put with him when I get a larger tank and acclimate him to brackish. I've got a couple more months to figure it out

Dragon looks pretty good. Eventually will become monster. Mine seems to be a lot happier since raising salt levels.
