Just wondering what you guys thought about this bunch of GEO's i grabbed were. I have seen various names in stores, and online so im getting confused. I kno what I think they are, but what do you?

I would have made a poll, but i wanted as many species choices as possible, so lets hear your thoughts.

Thanks for your time

well i have kept geo. steindecheri(?) 'red hump eartheater' and i know for sure this fish IS NOT a geo steindecheri. glad to narrow it down, but hope someone else can help you out

Geophagus surinamensis would be your best bet, even though this species is a catch-all to most sellers. A better shot of the tail may help, but your fish pictured fits the criteria for a surinamensis (large lateral spot, no facial markings, and height). It could also be a juvie G. sp. "Tapajos Red Head" (it looks like yours has some banding action going on and a red flash on the head) ... you'll just have to grow them up! Differentiating small geos can be very tough.

THATS GREAT NEWS, i bought them as (Jurapuri, Surinamensis, & "Geo") i thought they were surinamensis myself... but Altifrons would be sweeeeeeeeeet. thanks for your help guys!

Looking Geo's up anywhere is very confusing due to every book has a different name for Geo species, and every website has different pics too... only time will tell i guess.

i think true surinamensis are very hard to get.
there are many geos that look the same when small.
where were they collected

No idea, nobody ever seems to know a damn thing about surinamensis, or Geo's all together. I got my fish from 3 stores. 7$-15$ each. and Dixon if theyre not Surinamensis, atleats leave me your guess on the species...Thanks
