Forget a pond, more like a lake for put your fish into.

Im not sure about getting lake and shovelnose sturgeon, they are pretty hard to hands on them....what kind pond? Natural (hole filled with water)? Stay away from stugeons in the pet stores....If i were you, I will steer away from sturgeons. If you planning to get a sturgeon, make sure you get a sturgeon from a hatchery with your recipt. Just focus on the fish what you have now, not thinking about future until your pond's settled down and let forage fish breeding in your pond (depends how big it is) for a year before add any fish you want. Make sure its enough deep for winter as you dont have any room to house 3 footers. Otherwise you will ended up having winter kills. Tiger muskie are pretty aggressive too, will attack ANY fish.

Gars, bowfins and bullheads make good pond fish than wipers, tiger muskie, sturgeons, walleye, perch and big catfish. I rather get bowfins and gars over catfish, muskie, walleye, wipers and sturgeons any time.

like i said mn rebel i am a fisherman and bowfin and gars do not sufice, bullheads are not a pond worthy fish as the breed to fast and over populate. Another thing i forgot to add was im planning on finding a fish farm so i can put shad, and alewifes in it along with fatheads, shinners, chubs, and bluegill. pLenty of forage, ill make the pond as big as my dad lets me. we got enough room to make two ponds so yeah. If i go far enough to put sturgen thell be what ever native to america species i can get either whites or lake. now i dont know nothing about alligator gar but if they can survive the winter they might be a worthy gar.

Huh? so you only want a pond to fishing into? Im not keen to fishing out my own fish that I raised for many years. Avoid alewifes as they are invasives and not good forage fish for your pond. Your pond do not handle too many species at same time very well. Just how deep is your pond and how wide is your pond?

Stick with these species that can adapt to pond life:
Channel catfish
Sunfish
largemouth bass
Wiper (or white bass)
Any forage fish except alewife

Avoid walleye and tiger muskie

i dont keep the fish lol, i release them

You shouldn't release a fish in the wild.
Anyway,no tiger muskie.Your pond will be devastated soon.Alligator gar can survive overwintering, though when it got large it would want to eat all of your fish.

its his private pond. but anyway, I'm not sure why you want to grow out pet fish to later dump into your pond and fish for them.

you keep saying your a fisherman. why dont you just stock the pond and fish. and skip the whole process of growing them out. haha :screwy::ROFL:

nope, cuz stocked fish dont grow as fast your can maximize growth when in the fish tank and give them a better chance at adapting cuz their healther
