Hey guys

So recently I have spend the past year hunting for a gulper catfish here in South Africa...Today my lfs called me to say that they have them now

I recently got a small wallago catfish...Can I keep my wallago with the 2 gulpers or is it not advised?

Wallago catfish is also not easy to get here so I would love to keep all but if the wallago has to go then it’s gotta go!

Please let me know your thoughts?

Ps. The gulpers are slightly bigger than the wallago

The gulpers will eat things up to twice their size so no not safe pal.

Yup. First, the gulpers will almost definitely eat the wallago, wallago is easy to swallow being thin and flexible, the gulpers will roll it up like a sushi in their tummy and will want more to eat. Then, if / when the wallago grows up, it will eat the gulpers.

Hey guys what your take on 2 gulpers with small tiger barbs? Since the tiger barbs are way smaller maybe the gulpers wont care about them?

gulper is almost guaranteed to eat the barbs

Dloks may be right but it's been reported both ways - some say the gulpers won't care preying on little tank mates (I guess well fed gulpers), while others say they will. I don't think we have enough reports to talk about probabilities much.

Do here a search on gulpers and small prey, gulpers and neons, gulpers and tiger barbs, etc.

You'll find threads like these:

I feel the gulpers will eat them. Because fish much larger than them will. It's like saying if you feed your dog, and leave a bone in front of him he won't take it when you look away for a few hours and forget to feed him so he doesn't eat it.
