wallmart rant

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I buy fish sometimes at walmart/petco/petsmart if I cant find it at my lfs. I make sure that they dont help me and they just net the fish and most of the time they cant even do that. Like last week I bought a pair of convicts and thye are still alive!

All the big superstore are ****. They sell crap fish, keep them in crap conditions and give crap information and advice. Your local fish shops are always the best. People there keep fish and know what they're talking about, and will gove you good advice.

Local's Rock!!

Carl.

and we all expected more from Wal-Mart because... ???

It's like complaining that Footlocker dosn't carry enough Hats..

The good thing about buying a fish from Wal Mart is that it comes almost dead for you,you don't have to become attatched to the fish because it probobly won't live for more than a week. My deal with Wal Mart selling fish isn't that they are incorrect, (I intern in an aquarium and when you step into the public area all you hear is parents telling there kids that a clown fish is really a nemo fish and a sandbar shark is a great white shark), but they simply do not care. Whenever I go to a Wal Mart that carries fish I make it a priority to make sure the fish have at least been fed. Sometimes I will quickly grab some feader fish and put them into the oscar tanks. I have been tempted to ask if i could clean the tanks.

Walmart has fish?

I haven't been in a Walmart for at least a couple years. They've trashed too many good businesses to get my $$.

We expect people that sell fish to know how to properly care for them and give people the right information, not sell half dead oscars to people w/ 10 gallon tanks!

:swear: I could go on forever about retailers such as those promoting fish. Many, many times I have stopped by to view the fish and was appalled at how they were kept, treated, and barely fed. Not to mention most of them were mislabeled, dead or dying from stress related illnesses, stuck dead to the intake valves with the bodies obviously being there for days, or covered in ick. It discusts me. Just the other day, I went to pet supplies plus to pick up some flea meds for my dogs and stopped to check out the fish. You wouldn't believe, they had two green severum juvies in a mbuna mixed tank that were totally beat down. they had no place to take cover so both of them were jammed up beside the intake valve, finless, almost scaleless, and full of body slime/ick. I complained to the completely clueless clerk that called an even more ignorant clueless "fish guy" to the counter. They didnt even know what they were. He promptly said that the "convicts" were fine in the tank. I almost fell over. I quickly purchased them and rushed them home to medicate them. They made a full recovery. I since rehomed them with a friend of mine. I have been known to make rescues especiallly in cases like that, but it sickens me to know they even hire these people that know little or nothing about the little charaters they call "disposable ornaments". Places like that should be banned.

i work at wal mart and sometimes im incharge of the live pet department, i hate it. ive told of the store manager before. we have 6 red belly pacu in one of the 10 gallon tanks and there about 6 inches a piece along with some oscars in the same tank. its ridiculous. i want to rescue them but i dont have a tank for them. and i always warn people about what there buying and the size tank they would need. ive actually argued with a lady about how big oscars get. she kept telling me they only get 6 inches long  i actually lauged in her face then asked her where she got her information at, she said the other guy that does the fish, i stopped laughing and went to the other guy, needless to say, he doesnt say anything anymore to the customers. i wish they wouldnt sell the "assorted cichlids" i get nine thousand people a day wanting them and i have to go through how there agressive and they eat other fish. its ridiculous, sorry about the rant
