STOP BUYING FROM WALMART. For every fish you buy they just bring in another. SO YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. More fish are now dying because of your actions.
i think he was trying to help... damn.:irked:

I find it funny how some people say not to buy fish cause then you are making it worse. How is one person making a difference? Even if 100 people stopped buying, theres still 1000s more to buy them. You think walmart or any LFS gives a damn whether YOU by their fish? They got 1000s more lined up. Not buying will not help. It will only make a difference in a very very tiny fraction. IMO complaining like this and actually maybe getting through to some people who might be able to do something about it is more effective.

I suppose you don't vote either:thumbsdow

You do realize the no retailer is going to restock what they don't sell, right?

I was actually in Walmart today.... They had 4 Puffers and man was it really sad. They looked sooooooo sick. Then the glass was dirty. ugh makes me wonder if I wrote to them if it mattered.

i think we would get farther complaining to corporate about not training the fish employees or actually not having anyone for a "fish guy" (or gal) in the first place. they tell their night stockers if you are there and are asked for help. bag the fish.i have gotten someone from the pharmacy before to get me a fish. lol yes, i am guilty of purchasing a few fish from them but as people said i felt the same way. it was like i rescued them. i actually "rescued" a green spotted puffer as well and ended up learning alot about brackish water and also helped great with my snail overpopulation. but all they need to do is make it mandatory to train someone in that department. how hard would it be to convince them? "hey! you want to save money?" hell with that money even give the employee a computer to get info if they dont know it instead of saying "uh... yeah... i think?"

one of my walmarts has six do not buy from this tank signs and they keep moving them from tank to tank for ick and various other things. they still dont get that whatever they see in one tank is in all of the tanks. they probably dont even have the filters plugged in. i wont buy fish at that store at all.

how many people do you know that bought a fish from walmart and it lasted more then a month? Because I don't know any.
If you aren't specialized fish/animal store you should not be allowed to sell them, thats my opinion.

My Oscar lasted 7 years and my Pleco is well and going on 12.

I wish there was a license requirement to work with fish.
Then there should be a license to buy them too.

I bought a baby Oscar recently, from Petsmart. The lady who got it for me said she had to ask me if I had a 30 gallon tank. If I did not, then she could not sell me the Oscar. I told her that a 30 is not big enough for a Oscar. She looked surprised, and asked how big of a tank they need.

The worst place to buy fish were I live is locally owned. This place sells herps, cats, birds and fish. You walk in and the smell of cat urine hits you in the face. They keep large cichlids in 15 gallon tanks. They have tons of 10 gallons with dead fish in them. It's dirty, smells, and looks like is should be condemned. The funniest thing about this place is their web site. If you google a fish species, they are often on the first page with their species profile.:screwy:

I have never bought a fish from Wal Mart. But I do shop there. I always look at the fish tanks. The ones where I am are always clean,no dead fish, and they all look healthy.

Go figure.

As annoying as it sounds and I know someone will flame me for this, there should be some type of paper work when buying a fish just like there is for adopting animals from a shelter. Fish get the crappy end of the stick where I live and the chains of pet stores will sell anything to anyone. Best example: I was told at PetSmart that ID sharks are fine in a 75 gallon and I could probably get away with less than that if I wanted to.

So there should be some training for fish workers (as well as any animal being sold) and there should be something to slow down the process of buying fish. It would be better off for the fish.

IE: Oscars should not go in 30 gallons haha

Just an FYI - starting a thread about banning Walmart from selling fish and then telling us about the two fish you bought from Walmart is completely contradictory and the entirely wrong way to support your belief or add merit to the cause.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking. By buying two fish, you now gave them the incentive to guy and potentially kill 4-5 at least
