ANother personal experience I have to add. If Chrysler made it, it will break, frequently. My family has owned 3 completely different Chrysler products, all of them have threatened to burst into flames at least once. More commonly the transmission will drop a gear for no apparent reason, or the brakes will take a nap when you need to use them. I'd only get another Chrysler if it was composed of more Fiat parts then Chrysler parts. Why? Because Fiats are more reliable than Chryslers these days. Think about it, and Italian company is more reliable than an American one. That never happens! Well, now it has, and it looks like they're changing for the better now that Fiat has purchased them.

get the largest car with the biggest interior. you can stuff it with so many tanks of nos and be a super pro street racer.

I personally love the toyota land cruiser...

the toyota is def less common as you have said, I think this is the toy you should want if you want to hold on to it for a while, something that will be unique on and off the road.

the jeep is probably better if you don't consider keeping it for a while, nor care too if it gets banged up, like you have said, parts are cheap and common.

Toyota. I had an 87 4runner with 33s. And it never got stick once even though it had a little 4 cylinder. I had to pull my friends RAM out that had with a V8 even. He quit talking crappy after that. Now you've got me wanting another one.

Yes but OLDER jeeps are already AMC designs, not Chrysler. Jeeps used jeep parts, Chryslers used Chrysler parts. They didn't start mixing the parts until the last decade. But I agree that Chryslers went through a phase where they used Mitsubishi transmissions and all hell broke loose because they used the wrong transimisson fluid (Dextron and Mercon V) in them. The problem has since been fixed with the introduction of ATF + 3 & 4. I've owned 2 late 90's Jeeps and my current one has over 170,000 miles and the one before that (wrecked it) had over 200,000 miles on it and the transmissions both worked/work flawlessly. It's all about the fluids!

Fiat might have changed in the last decade but remember at one time it stood for "Fix It Again Tony". ;)

I often wonder if you even read the threads you post in...

I like the look of the Toyotas (especially the Icelandic ones you posted) but the Jeep would cost a lot less to build and have more off-road potential.

forgive me if i missed this some where but I have some questions.
First is this off road only or is the road also
If road is a part then will you reach speed faster then 45
secound part to this are the trails your after rock and gravel or are they woods and mud
Gravel and rock is more suspention mud and wood tends to be brute force.

see here in maine its snow and mud brute force always wins that and most of us they are are work trucks to. so because of the roods and ice we build large wheal bases. Jeep cherikee. f150, f250, dodge rams, gmc k1500, you get the idea
up here only out of town yupies buy toyotas

As a lifelong fan of Toyota, I would point you in that direction. I think you get a better quality product from a Toyota, but that's just me. I've never owned a Jeep, so in fill disclosure, I want to point out the bias. I am a 4runner owner and have been for several years/generations. I think you can't go wrong with the Land Cruiser as they are world renowned for their reliability and offroad capability. Have you considered a 2nd or 3rd gen T4r? They're extremely customizable and have many if not all of the features (depends on the trim model) you mentioned.

The heep is gonna be cheaper parts more available. Jeep is gonna break twice as fast as any landcruiser. Jeep will need 1 ton axles custom installed if you plan on 37 inch tires. Stock axles if there dana 44s can handle 33s 35s if you dont flog it. Either way you gonna need around 1500 to 2 grand for new gearing. while doing that your gonna need lockers installed.

land cruiser built tuff built right go anywhere just like jeeps. Little bigger harder find parts for way way more comfortable. I had a fj62 . also had a cj7 and girl had a yj . I say go with the landcruiser. Get a old man emu 3 or 4 inch lift kit. throw some 33s on it and be done Will take you everywhere you would ever want to.
