ps jeeps are fun but miserable on any road trip. landcruiser your can take your friends in comfort wheel all day and no you can make it home.
ive also had. K5 blazer and a 99 suburban Im curently looking for another landcruiser i want the fzj80 also

That would explain a lot. My car is a 2001 Chrysler. Got it for $9,000 and have paid around $40,000 in repairs..... It's awful.

Fiat has improved a lot. I've never seen one broken down on the side of a road since they were first released (I travel a lot). Michael Schumacher drives a 500 Abarth, and he says he loves it. Old Fiats are more likely to break than work. I think they've toned down the fiery passion to they point where it won't overload with said fiery passion and break.

There's a reason why Land Cruisers are so expensive. Toyota designed and built every part on these vehicles to last forever. Jeeps are popular off roaders in America and Land Cruisers are plush, but they're built like Jeeps (sparsely optioned) in most other countries and used on some of the roughest terrain you could think of, and for daily duty, not just a weekend warrior.

Jeep is winning 2 to 1. Heh heh

I would get a land cruiser between the two.

Really though, the best muddin truck I've seen/been in was an '84 Yota with a 4 cyl, 4.56 gears, and 35" tires. It out ran both of the jeeps, the Cherokee and the Chevy.

how bout something like my old truck?

.. if not then jeep :)

I'd personally go with a land cruiser

i guess it depends on what you're planning to do ts, if you're gonna go on long trips and bring family/friends a lot, then i'd say the land cruiser would be more comfortable. but if you're just planning to play with the toy mostly by yourself and the lady on short trips maybe the jeep would be better

Jose, I owned a jeep that would make you green with envy, everything was exactly as you described you're looking for and it was great off road. However, that thing was complete garbage everywhere else. The MPG was laughable, the ride on the road was horrible, everytime it was windy it felt like the thing would blow over, and the gearbox was a joke. Just my 2 cents... If you are planning on using the jeep for anything other than off roading, get something else.

If your all for the toyota then y ask? thats what you obviously want so just get that...

I haven't, that's why I posted the thread. But I'm not cool with mindless bashing w/o having a clue as to what you're talking about :)

how much money you going to drop? because you should go in this direction if you want to get serious

1978-79 ford bronco with a 460

I own a manual land rover discovery myself and it's great on the trails. lower windshield to reduce glare and like no blind spots at all.

just throwing out different vehicles you might not have thought of.

If i had to pick from what you asked though i would say the yota all the way... jeeps are a dime a dozen...

That's a pretty awesome truck. I think they look sweet. Haven't really thought about them though. And I don't know anything about their suspensions. Easy to find parts for them I'm assuming?

What kind of off roading we talking?

I'd like to build something that's capable of going over decent sized boulders, and through some mud. In my area we have a lot of forest trails, and the Rubicon is just a short day trip away. I'll be starting off easy of course, then gradually working up to harder trails. So it's kinda hard to say what I'll be doing 100% of the time.

Thanks!

forgive me if i missed this some where but I have some questions.
First is this off road only or is the road also
If road is a part then will you reach speed faster then 45
secound part to this are the trails your after rock and gravel or are they woods and mud
Gravel and rock is more suspention mud and wood tends to be brute force.

see here in maine its snow and mud brute force always wins that and most of us they are are work trucks to. so because of the roods and ice we build large wheal bases. Jeep cherikee. f150, f250, dodge rams, gmc k1500, you get the idea
up here only out of town yupies buy toyotas

Yeah, it will definitely be driven on the road, and for several hours at a time since I intend to take this thing camping too. So it's needs to be streetable too.

Have you considered a 2nd or 3rd gen T4r? They're extremely customizable and have many if not all of the features (depends on the trim model) you mentioned.

Well, I did own a 3rd gen 4runner. Had a 6" lift with 35s. It was mostly a pretty daily driver and never did serious off roading in it. I still miss that truck. Main reason for not considering one is that I want something with solid axles. And 2nd gens use a torsion bar IFS if I'm not mistaken. 3rd gens have strut/IFS. Both of which I really don't like and have very limited aftermarket options for lifts. After I lifted my 3rd gen I had absolutely no down travel in the suspension. I want to avoid that if I can.

Nice, but I'm just not into American trucks. I guess it's because they're so common!

Sounds sweet! Good points too, since I'll be driving this thing on the road a good amount too.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, keep them coming! I do read them all, even if I didn't reply to each one :)
