i agree, geckos are cool but you cant really handle them all to much. they drop their tails so easily.
Some geckos do, but not leos. I've never had one drop its tail while I handled it. I've handled them from hatchling size (only to transfer them between enclosures-otherwise I'd try to avoid handling small leos at all) up to adult.

imo beardeds will be the best
and they are not complicated
all you need is uvb and a heat lamp some suplements and a few more things
but rankin dragons are a type of bearded dragon or shall i say in the same family
and a 20g can house 2 of them
you will get bored of leos

Or maybe he wont. I only got rid of my leos as I didn't have enough time for them for a while, and now I regret it. Just because YOU think you will get bored with them doesn't mean the OP will

if you want to get super beginner how bout some green anoles? Plus, they're like 5.99 at my LFS. I'm not a big fan, just something to consider.

I may not have a lot to compare with, but I really like my Leo's. I have 2 females in a 20gL, and one of them hides a lot while the other is always out and about. Guess it's just different personalities.

People consider them beginner herps because they are small, available, and cheap, but they really aren't, IMO. They're often wild caught and kept in horrible conditions, so they're often very sickly by the time they even get to you. Then there's the fact that while they're small, they're also very active so they require a much larger cage than you would think. Many keep them in those little plastic critter keepers, or even 10 gallon tanks, but as much as they move around I think they should be given at least a 29 gallon or larger setup. They also require a near constant supply of small feeder insects, again because they are so active. Also, if you want a handleable herp, these are out. They are tiny, FAST, and can climb pretty much any surface, so normally if you ever do find an escapee, it's normally in the form of a skeleton weeks or months later. All in all, they really aren't that difficult to keep-half the battle is finding healthy ones to begin with-but I'd consider them somewhere between the high end of "beginner" species and the lower end of "intermediate." That said, a decent sized tank with a group of healthy anoles and tons of live plants and moss, etc. would be an awesome setup

hahaha... i always wanted anoles as a starter, but i dont think they are the best to handle. I always liked the arboreal... but what about someting like a Pnather gecko (oscelated, madagascar, diff. names) are great, dont require special lighting, can survive off room temp. depending where you are, dont need a large enlocure... actually i think one can survive in a 10 Gal. and dont live for like 30 years so if you get bored of them you most likely wont have to give them up. But imo Cresteds are great :headbang2
