Warning... Electricity kills!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the bump, I've never seen this thread before and will be good for reference. Being an electrician for close to 20 years now I would like to concur with Potts050 on all info he has provided.

lol my cichlids geep digging my heater up and dislodging it from the suction cuff, and atloast once a week i see it floating at the top of the tank... :(

the tank is grounded via a grounding probe just in case, and everything is on a gfi and a powerbar..., i still fear that one day im gonna come down stairs and everyone of my lil fishies are floating...

I'm still astounded, amazed, confounded, in awe, and in "shock":ROFL::ROFL::eek::eek::D.

Give them something else to play with, semi floating ball (whiffle ball) etc.

Worked for me.

I think a good way to prevent heaters from breaking is use a pvc pipe, drill a bunch of holes in it for heat circulation, and cover the heater up with it. Although I dont do it because my fish are still too small to break anything, I think it would work well

and I also think it would work and will do it..Great idea for my monster fish and monster turtles!!!!!

Dont worry about the fish. They are'nt the ones likely to get a shock as long as they are in the tank....

GFI and Grounding probes do work and are the safest thing for your tanks and your safety. But if you have monster fish that are going to chew electrical wires and heaters then you need to place all that stuff in the sumps. Large tanks should be on sumps anyways. And you should be regularly maintaining your equipment to keep it all safe. Fish are good only if your there to enjoy them.
