Warrior Flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just give it a few days, feed them good food, all the pearl and marking should appear if they have any. Got my FH from a frys tank at lfs, he got no color at all, just pink.

Definitely , I’m not too concerned about how this guy will turn out, it looks much better than the vid shows. Maybe a crappy camera or something lol

I run into that a lot in my basement. Sometimes I have to use a flashlight just to get pearls to show up on a vid.

The new guy arrived this morning. This vid is about an hour after arriving in AZ from Massachusetts. Already looks better than the other one did after arrival. It’s about 1.25”

Oh my god. Your seller has either been fooling you every time or he has very little knowledge about choosing the right FH. I will show you few examples.. choose the fry with a good body shape and fins like the one here.. also take a closer look at the pearls and colours on its body. This juvenile grew to become this beautiful looking semi adult.. people in your market sell FHs at lesser than 1.-2 inches in size because very few people know how to select a good fry.. the bad fries that grow up will be hard to sell, hence they mix all of them up in one lot and sell them to you. The best thing to do is contact a good FH breeder in your city or from Thailand and pay them for transportation. Cause after you do all the hard work to raise a FH, you’ll be happier and the transportation money will be worth it.

Thanks for the tips, but I’m not looking for show quality, just nice looking with good personality. The ones in your pics are much bigger than mine. We’ll see how it turns out, but it’s much more colorful than it appeares in the video, and is much more colorful than the first one was at 4”. The vid makes it look kinda bleached out, but it has kinda of a sparkling over most of the body and the head is almost like mother of pearl. Maybe you’re right and it will turn out like the other, I guess we’ll see. The first one came from a breeder on eBay that clearly cheated me, the second cake from a seller I’ve bought many fish from, he said his FH aren’t grade A, but most of the ones he gets turn out pretty nice.

Good luck with it, main thing is you are happy with it.

The flowerhorn scene looks like a whole different world of fishkeeping with a steep learning curve and lots of dodgy sellers out to make a $. Everyone stresses about the grade and all these made up names and strains. It's a lot to take in for the unwary who are just starting out.

I've always been against FH on principle but am starting to see the appeal, luckily if I do get the urge there's a good LFS nearby with some nice ones and the owner is cool. A decent semi adult here is around $900AUD, about 10cms but well coloured and nice hump on head.

I agree 100%, I don’t care about the grade or any of that, I just saw the one being sold as a warrior fh and thought it resembled mine. As long as it looks nice and has some attitude, I’m good
