Warrior Oscar at store- should I buy him?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think you should buy him under one condition, that is if you are willing to be fostering him and searching for a better more suitable home such as a 55 gal. Hole in the head can be difficult to treat so you'd be investing time and energy into a fish you couldn't keep long term. Some people are OK with this and buy sick fish just for this purpose, others are not.

thanks and i agree. i just felt genuine pity for the fish. the other replies in this thread are pretty cold too, but hey, that's the arctic of the internet where trolls roam and keyboard warriros run amok.

Cold? Trolls? you asked a question and got the logic answer that you obviously didn't like. What did you expect? some kind of award for trying to raise a fish under miserable conditions? There's 10 million fish out there that need help too, get over it.

I would say go for it, if you had 55 gallon at least. Also HITH is very hard to cure, but when I ended up adopting my Oscar at 4 inches, it already started to develop HITH actually and I was willing to take the Oscar still. It took me over a year in half to get it under control and I noticed that 95% of it went away around 4 months ago.I am not sure what type of condition my Oscar was living in, but I had a very hard time getting this Oscar to eat pellets for the longest time.

Since when is a 55g tank a proper sized tank for an Oscar?

Taking this oscar and putting him in your 29g tank only eliminates the chance of it ending up in a proper sized home. Don't be selfish, leave the fish to someone who can actually provide for it.

"Cold" and "trolls" your like a little kid who don't get what he wants:cry:

I'm not understanding the whole troll remarks, if people are giving you some advice that it isn't good to have an Oscar in a 29 gallon. If you had at least a 55 gallon, people wouldn't be telling you no as much.

Last time I checked I was able to keep a Oscar in a 55 gallon for a year until I upgraded to a 125 gallon.

Yeah sure if you start with a small oscar, this is not the case of the oscar in question, is it? A checkbook is 6" long so no way you should be keeping this O in 55G for a year.
