Warrior Oscar at store- should I buy him?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the HITH is that pronounced, the humane thing to do would be to put it out of its misery (IMO IMO IMO!). Seriously, if you can see down to the bone of the fish, I'd venture a guess that it has multiple other problems that you don't see. I'm sure there are some people who would argue that you could turn it around with vigorous water changes, impeccable tank maintenance, and good food, but the chances are slim that someone will walk into that store and see the fish in that condition, then actually pay money for it and dedicate the time and tank space required to turn it around. Sad but true. I see sickly adult oscars here all the time that people trade in, and they're all over Craigslist as well (along with the 55 gallon tank that they were improperly raised in).

"Cold" and "trolls" your like a little kid who don't get what he wants- bderick67. thats my case in point. keyboard warriors. the rest is too inflammatory and hostile to warrant further remarks.

and to most, yes i understand what you are saying entirely. a 90 or larger is suitable for a full grown oscar over its lifetime. i get that, no problem and in fact i agree. i just pitied the fish. writing on this forum was just an expression of the debate i had in my mind over a poor animal. but i would have made my own decision anyway, i asked here just to see what othes might do if they were in the position i am in.

my remark about the cold arctic and such were directed at comments made by hybridgs. for whatever reason when i tried to quote him, the reply thing would'nt work. so i no nothing personal at anyone else i think. funny how it struck some nerves though- was taking too personally.

thanks for your reply mavrick- you are correct in what you say and i say again my remarks as not at you. i thought the reply button worked when i typed all that towards another member, not you man.

I think we've all been in this position, And FWIW have had the backlash of the forum from something we've posted or asked. That being said I think it's more so that people don't know how to articulate their concerns and others read emotion in simple text. I mean come on, Who here hasn't watched a Txt fight, or FB Argument where it seems all parties in the argument agree. but their bickering anyway?

Your OP, made me think you knew the idea wasn't a good one but wanted to know if others have slighted their first judgement on fish husbandry to try and better the life of an animal you've seen suffering. And I think that's been debated enough.

Now, for other animal species. Hypothetically, I would not have a problem taking say a Full Grown St. Bernard home to my 12 floor highrise apt. If I knew it was getting him out of a 4'x5' cage that he had been living in for a week+ with no care. I say this because I know it's a lot easier to Re-home a dog in a short period of time then an Oscar with Massive HITH. Ya know?

Mike.

what you is about where i am mavrick. its all cool. perhaps it was also on me for not being a good typist of my thoughts.

im not even sure how i could help the fish anyway. i mean, i saw bone from where the disease had eaten the flesh away. he reminded me of a leper. i didnt go ahead with buying him simply because i though my tank was too small and he would need lots of water cvhanges, which is something that i didnt have time for.

I hear that. I find myself dreading the weekend sometime becuase I know it's filled with stuff to do and hate leaving my fish without their weekly water change for an extra day...

Mike
