Watch Him Grow: My male Green Terror named Kai

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What a stunner. I picked up a green terror years ago. I see fish like this and wish I had kept him.

Wow that's nice of you to say that. I do everything I can to provide for him and I think it's paying off.

I don't have any plans on getting rid of him that's forsure. I hope to have him his entire life.

I feel like green terrors are a bit underated in the hobby but I really couldn't be happier with him.

I thought I would add some more information about his tank in case anyone who reads this is ever interested.

Tank: 75 gallon tank from seapora - rimless (big als canada brand)
Filter: Fluval FX6 with lots of eheim pro bio balls and standard sponges from fluval
Heater: Aqueon Pro 250W
Temp: 76-80 depending on the time of year
WC Schedule: Minimum 70% a week but sometimes 2-3 70% water changes a week
Substrate: National Geographic Black sand found at petsmart
Water Parameters (city of Cambridge Ontario): PH is around 8 & TDS around 800 out of the tap. I keep Nitrates 5-10 or mostly under 5ppm

Tank-mates: 10x Synodontis Petricola
Diet: NLS sinking pellet, Northfin pellet, shrimp pellets from omega, different algae type wafers from various brands, live compost red worms aka red wigglers, sometimes frozen foods but rarely. Also some peas and spinach on occasion.

If I am forgetting to mention something don't hesitate to ask. I will get some updates photos of Kai sometime next month.

As of last night I have completed a full 7 day treatment feeding twice daily using NLS hex shield to try and beat / cure my GT's really early HITH. For the past few weeks I have been doing daily water changes up to 80% and will continue to do every other day water changes till I see his small spot heal up.

Hi everyone,

Kai's HITH is cured and his small spot is actually healing up. I think in a month I won't even know it was there. Kai is now pushing over 6" and is getting more aggressive as time passes. He is a true glass banger!

Here's some new pics for the month.

Enjoy.

He's a lovely healthy looking fish, well done. Love how good they're colours look over black gravel or sand. He's growing very well

Thanks Benno87,

I previously had really light colored sand, switched off of it because it was packing down way too much and was creating anaerobic pockets. Then switched to a mixed gravel, had some light and dark colors but was too course and Kai had a hard time eating off of it. I also didn't like it the look of it, so it had to go.

Now using this black sand stuff from national geographic, I like the look, size and weight. Kai's colors really do look good against it too.

I'm still not sure what his true potential is going to be in terms of size but Im hoping for a big boy :)

Kai is looking great. I agree your tank setup really makes his colors pop!

Beautiful Green Terror, his colors pop so much against that black sand, and background.
