I have an 8 gallon planted and a 10 gallon planted. I do weekly 25% - 30% water changes. I use a syphon to remove and a pitcher to fill back up. I make sure the water is a good temperature first. Then I add Aqua Plus.

I have a question.
Sometimes, when I am refilling my tanks, the water I pour in pushes the substrate and then the plants float up to the top and I have to replant them. How can I solve this problem?

I do a 25% water change every 4-5 days. I got a 5 gal bucket, I use a siphone hose and clean the gravel out at the same time. Dump all the water in the bath tub, 5 gals at a time. Then I fill it in the bathtub and add the water conditioner as it fills up. I stir it around too before I add it in the tank. Then I dump it in slowly.

Dump it slowly so there isnt alot of pressure.

As soon as I hit 200 gallons in my house I started using the Python........other wise water changes took way to long......but if all you have is like one 55 gal in one room or something just use a two inch thick hose and create a siphen to your bathtub.....thats what I use to do before I started going big.........BUT i would mix your water treatments and other water additives into the new water before putting it in your tank.......

Use plant weights, problem solved, were not talking about a huge amount of water here. Too simplify things more put a sieve on top of the tank to dissipate the water returning. Sorry to hijack bottomfeeder:)
