Water changes with buckets UGH!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Skip the Python... I keep a 40 gallon barrel in my basement circulating with a Koralia 4, heater and some Prime... I then use a pump to move the water, from the barrel into my tanks. I can do a 50% WC on my 75 gal in about 5 mins, with the water at perfect temp and no chlorine.

no need to waste water, just drain it outside into your lawn/front yard whatever, i then simply use the hose straight from my backyard and drag it inside to fill up :)

Pythons come with a faucet adapter. You don't need to purchase one. They work fine with a salt system, drip system, sump, fresh, w/e label you want to add. Where you put that water for treatment/conditioning/mixing is on you. They work great to siphon the water out and to add water to a tank. Purchase an adequate length.

Yep, that's me.
Two 5 gallon buckets 3x per week.
I use the water on my outdoor landscaping. Its nutrient rich!
The dumping of 5 gallon water bottles in my tanks gracefully is more of a hassle than the removal of waste waters. But I agree there has got to be a better way.

I still use the bucket method, i consider it part of my "workout" routine lol

Im with you. Cleaning the 75 and 90 least once a week does keep you moving. I like being active, still enjoy doing water changes like this. Gravel vac, dump it on my plants and grass, x5 or 6 and then re fill each one up. Done it like this for over 10 years and probably will for a while, plus im diesel so that helps hahaha

I'll stick to my bucket ritual...lol!!! I change water regularly in my 180 using 5 gallon buckets(lots of them).. It's good exercise plus you can monitor your chemical usage. I also use prime for all of my water changes as well as aquarium salt and ammo lock on occasion.

Chris

personaly i just got some clear hose tubing from home depot it was like 25 bucks for 50+ feet at 1inch thick not a bad deal then got a plastic fitting so i can use the hose/fossit to fill tank just use sucktion while high end is in the tank watter and drain then when filling add half a dose of prime befor and half a dose during or after filling this way when your done you have a full dose it cuts back on all the backbraking work of hauling around 5 gal buckets and after many years of doing it this way i have never had a problem
