Water Quality

I think one of the easiest ways is to use uniseal type rubber grommets in the 4" pvc. Uniseals absolutely will not leak if the hole is drilled the right size and the pipe or tubing fits into the uniseal snug.

Here, an 11/16-3/4" hole in the thinwall 4" pvc holds the uniseal. 1/2" cpvc pipe (O.D. 5/8") or 5/8" O.D. vinal tubing fits very tightly into the uniseal. Vinal tubing is a slightly better option than cpvc because it can flex to accomadate the very slight oblong hole in the pvc. (A hole will be slightly elongated in the direction of the bend around the 4" pipe, so I drill a smaller hole (11/16") and use rolled up sand paper to increase the hole diameter mostly in the vertical direction.)

A 90º elbo extends the input down to the bottom of the 15" tower. The ouput hole is at the top of 4" pvc opposite the input (not pictured).

Hey mike how are the uniseals holding up ?

not sure on a brand of epoxy, we buy ours from the boat/marine sports place out here and they have a house brand they sell in double syringes. its a 2 part epoxy that you squirt out and mix together then it hardens rock hard and seals everything up. can be applied underwater too. really cool stuff

Kind of. Damn thing sprung a leak two days in...fixed it amd found it leaking again last week figure i should just build the whole damn thing over but do it right this time. I wanna add another tower and place unions between each. This little p.o.s filter is giving me more issues than all my sumps put together lol. Also ordered some more denitrate

Womder if im gona kill all the anerobic bb when i transfer it over
Haha doing another redesign?

I wouldn't think so, bacteria are tough little buggers, just keep them submerged and oxygen free until you're ready to move them. Definitely curious to see what you do this time around (and if it works!). Once all this stuff with the baby works out this might be my next project

Yes
Are you using uniseals this time? The bacteria should be fine as long as you keep it wet some will die off but you shouldn't loose it all.

Got it done this after noon. I was iriginally aiming for 4 towers but decided to leave one out and use it in the 150, had nothing to do with me not ordering the right amount of uniseals lol. I wrapped the pump in 200 micron filter sock amd may remove all the mech from the 1st tower and add more denitrate.

kno4te kno4te A angel What im worried about is if the bb is anerobic wouldnt i have killed any off when transferring it to the new filter even though it was only exposed to the air for a couple of seconds.? I guess not a big deal and will wait it out

I doubt exposure to air would kill anaerobic bacteria, they thrive in environments that are devoid of oxygen, but as far as I know oxygen itself isn't deadly to them, it's just that their preferred food source can't exist in the presence of oxygen. IMO your bacteria might have gotten a shock, and might need a little time to fully recover, but I doubt you really killed anything off
