my planted tank never gets salt. That's a no no.

i have plants in my community tank with some easy growers like java moss, java fern, hornwort, etc. and the salt doesn't seem to bother them. I have to trim the moss, and remove some fern every once in a while. i use 1tbs/5g everytime

I have used water softener salt for treating ick, and it works well.
Are you using it to help cure a disease?
If not, why use salt at all?
What kind of fish? are they brackish type that need salt?
What are the components (or lack thereof) of your tap water that you feel salt is needed?

Just as a medication in FW tanks. Injuries and such.
