Just wondered what most people did for WC's? I used to do 50% weekly but since I've cut back to 25-30% my Dats have been more stable.

I also noticed my Indo would flash alot after the WC in the past-probably because the Nitrates from my tap water were fairly significant. But in my mind my fish have been more stable with the slightly smaller volume changed each week.

I'd also like to know what people in the colder parts do this time of year-do you still run the water straight from the hose/tap? I went to use the hose today but the damn thing had frozen with the residual water that was in it!

I change 50-75% weekly and don't have any issues doing so. I don't change the water the same time I clean the filter just to make sure bacteria levels are stable. I use a python connected to my sink, so I have all the warm water I need.

30-40ish%.....I use tap water w/ 5g buckets to get buff....lmao. My hose water is too cold, even in the summer. Actually, the hose is under 4ft of snow atm.

my dats HATE anything more then 20% ... even with a nice dose of prime .. all my other fish do great .. just the dats have problems

Hello:

I have a 350 which is fairly well stocked with both STs and ITs in a variety of sizes. I perform a 30% wc every Wednesday and a 50% wc on Saturday. This is about what I need to keep the nitrates at a reasonable level and to prevent feces from accumulating too much between wcs. My tank is in the garage and I have a 65 gallon rubbish container that I fill, dechlorinate and heat in advance. However, this only gives me 1/2-1/3 the volume of change water needed. For the remainder, I fill the container from the outside hose, but supplement with hot water from the downstairs bathroom. I allow about 10-15 minutes for the Prime to do its thing. My ITs also flash a bit during the wcs, but this activity stops within about 10 minutes...no apparent harm done.

Thanks for the response people. The flashing I find interesting-I used to panic and think it was the start of flukes or ich. I don't whether to invest in one of those RO units to keep nitrates down, it just seems a lot of hassle to me. At the moment the fish seem fine too

In my 300 I do 50%+ with no signs of stress in my fish. My 50gl grow out, I do 75% (Both weekly) and my Bichirs love it... and also no signs of stress from the other tankmates.

Straight tap water from a Python with Prime

Ive only got one but at the minute im doing about 70% with two wc and the dat is fine.

Cheers steve
