currently doing 50% water changes every week. cichlids dont mind it.but, if i kept more sensitive spwecies i would do 30-40% to err on the safe side.

READING THROUGH THE REPLIES MAKES ME PLEASED I POSTED-THERE SEEMS TO BE NO COMMON APPROACH AND ALL PROVIDE FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I WONDER IF IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE AGE/SIZE OF THE TIGER TOO?
i do 25-30% x2 weekly. i have slate tiles bottom tank and all the junks sit at the bottom. so when i do my wc i can vacuum all the junks out at the same time and this seem to help alots. the water is always clear bc all the junks are being sucked out twice weekly.

Personally I think people go a little overboard on WC's, I think doing anything over 50% on a regular basis might be putting to much stress on the fish, and to me the point of water changes is to limit stress and keep proper water conditions, obv. This also is totally dependent on the fish you are keeping.
Overall the level of care people give there fish on this site is top notch. Dat's need great water conditions and I think with proper tank size and filtration, 50% weekly WC's should be good. If ur Dat's seem to be a little unstable after wc's then drop it down to 30-40% and do it every 4-5 days or something similar
i should do much more than i do. i do 25% every 1.5 months. mabye less!!! thats just on one tank. on others i do every 3 weeks 25%. and on my BIG tanks ill do 25% every other week, or ill take out 10% every week. but i dont have to do much water changes because all my tanks are stable and i overdo the BIO filtration( i have 1 sump, and 2 175gph HOB's on my 100 gallon.... and the entire sump is set aside for bio!!! i have 3 huge chambers filled with cut up Straws, which is the cheapest well working bio media!)
