WC Ceara?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with you on that 100%.. What people need to realize is that F1 F2 ect does not affect the fishes appearances still. The genes are still good especially if you breed with different blood lines. Example: you have a F1 then breed it with a wild or even a F1 or F2 from a different blood line, not with it's brother or sister. You will have better genetics that way. I laugh at some people that don't wanna touch F1 because they think it won't turn out colorful. They really don't understand breeding or genetics if they think that. Don't get me wrong, wild caught is the best to get but it just means that the wild fish have the best genes, that is all.

Well it all depends on how they're bred.
If the wc parents are brothers and sisters the f1s already starting bad. If the parents are wc and from different batch and not siblings then the f1s will come out looking just as good as the "wc". It can go down the line with no sibling breeding and the they will be a lot better looking than a batch that's bred by siblings.

Honestly. I find it strange that all these WC rare collection point Cichla came in "not in session" if you will. O_O

So how do you know when those rare cichla are In season?

+1 learned my lesson from one of my Taiwan import claiming for wc but recently ruled that they are not.

You're never to be100% sure of which fish is wc unless you're the one who to collect it. Even certain bass in the wild in brazil aren't really wc as they farm peacock bass down there now and keep introducing new species from one river system to the other.
The true meaning of wc kelberi doesn't exist anymore.
The ceara are from brazil from the ceara region.
That's all the supplier information will give me. They won't say the exact location or anything specific.

To be able to tell the difference between cb or wc is difficult. Unless its improper inbreed. Most of the times it happens accidentally. Those are the ones that comes out super ugly as they are brothers and sisters.
If the cichla are properly bred I'm sure they'll be stunners and may be even better looking than wild.

As of right now the only 2 kelberi I know for sure that have been bred in captivity are Bahia and rio araguaia kelberi.
If you do not want to get cb that's listed as wc I suggest don't ever get them again.
Sometimes we the vendor can not control the lies our suppliers give us.
And in the end we get blamed for. We pay the big money as well and take the risks as well. We lose a lot in it and mainly not about the money. I spent a lot of a Datnoid that's claimed to be something it's not and now it's sitting in my tank and I don't want to sell them cause I do not want to sell something they're not if I know they're not. That's the way this hobby is.
I hate to get fish for something they're not and I have to pay a lot more for them.

The problem I have with some of these statements is guys like Rapps have developed long term relationships with their suppliers that they trust, and Rapps will 100% stand by it. Being newer in the business you haven't had time to do this and you have to go on their word. Who's responsible in the end??- I feel the final seller who sells it as wc, if you don't believe a 100% that it is than don't sell it as.

Long time reputable vendors like rapps always gets cichla in oct/nov after the rainy season. This is just information I've been reading/collecting and passing it along.

And when I say reputable vendors, it's not a stab at you what so ever.

Yes, that's understandable but if I know they're not what they are wouldn't you think I would have had a refund from my supplier rather than selling them off? Even if the supplier wouldn't refund or reply I wouldn't sell the fish. Take the small baby ct Datnoids I got in. Guys pointed out to me they were indo and I pulled them back and took off for sale.

The same guy over and over again won't get you the next rare fish.
I don't want to compare with Jeff cause I look up to him and respect his works. Do you think the same guy will get you intermedias?
So if some other guy gets intermedia you wouldn't try for them?
Thing is I wouldn't sell anything for what they're not. I dont like getting lied to by people selling things for what they're not.

No offense taken.
But cichla comes all year long.
It doesn't have to be October/ November time frame. I do not want to assume anything of his import so I will not say anything of him. There are suppliers on São Paulo who collected kelberi during march or April time.
Also the guy that's here on Mfk who got his ceara around summer time.
They're out of season? So basically all of the cichla around besides September and October are cb?

It's mainly about who is willing to risk to get them for you.

Isde02 know which guy I'm talking about when I refer to the kelberis from before.

At the end of the day, Rapps is "trusting" his guys too... Rapps isn't going down to SA to collect so he has to trust their word too. Just like everyone else. As far as having relationships with fishermen in brazil, it doesn't mean they will scam you, most of the time it just means that they will sell you rarer fish, and offer you the rarer fish over other people.
