We have baby parrots!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have to get one last good whack on that dead horse and add this....

While I am no BP expert (and probably nenver will be) I bought a shortbodied pink con (dyed pink) that was sold as a parrot. He wasn't a parrot, and he wasn't a jellybean, just a hot-pink pink con

While at the LFS the other day, I stopped to look at some BPs, cute fish, but one of them looked wrong, when I actually looked AT him (instead of a quick glance over the tank) I noticed that he was a BIG male short-bodied pink con with a lovely nuchal hump, had I had room for him, I would've brought him home.

That store is very knowledgeable, and when I told them about it, they simply said, "We hadn't looked at them when they were brought in, so we didn't know."

You can't always go by petstore names.

yes the sponges were from the tank they are in now and have been set up for a month. They are free swimming.Should i take a good amount of the water they are in now and put it in there new tank or will all new water be ok??

I would do half new dechlored water and half water they are in now. Match the temp with the tap and you should be fine. They do not need to be fed for a week or so. How long have they been free swimming? Make sure you squeeze the sponges out before you put them on the tanks. You may have a tiny spike. Do NOT over feed. Do NOT put a pleco in with them for at least a month if at all. Change the water every other day and make sure you get all the food bits out of the tank. What will you be feeding them?

Well the majority of fish keepers here think mine are a cross breed ,different then a true BP or a true KKP.We like them because they are not all deformed looking and maybe they will make cool babies??

hotgirl,

the female looks like a king kong parrot, at the moment, she looks like a blood parrot because she is still small. Small king kongs looks similar to a better quality blood parrot(less deformed) when small. The male looks like it has a little parrot and red devil/midas trait in him. His lips looks like a red devil/midas while the body is short and also looks like a parrot and devil/midas. So it all depens how u look at him, he can be a red devil/midas mixed ? or a parrot mixed ?

im really starting to get p*** off at you people who think they know everything and judge you when you try to help some with there fish..... i dont buy from petsmart and your assuming that i bought it.... the yellow is a jelly bean parrot. crossed with a BLACK convict......... im pretty sure i know what goes on in my tanks!!!!!!!! how long have you made parrots and kept them?......

I dont know everything with regards to BP's but I have kept them long enough, seen hundreds of different ones(shapes, sizes and colours) to know that the yellow one with the black patches is not a jelly bean. But hey Im open to new concepts, I'll post the pic over at the Blood Parrot Forum that I run and see what everyone else thinks, you never know its possable im completely wrong.

BTW this is what is called a Jelly Bean, (the pale fish in the middle)

jelly beans, are not short bodied convicts. They are a cross. I use to keep them when I first got into fish. I got the undyed ones... They are nice. I was hoping they would catch on and people would stop dying them... ooh well... The guy near me who bread them used a BR and a convict.

I would use water from the tank they are in. If possible, I would let the parents raise them, but it seems like a move is necessary due to your space restraints.
