Are you using the arganite to buffer your PH? Do you need the same buffering capabilities from the black sand or can you use some PH inert? I don't know of any black sand that has PH buffering capabilities. More info please :D

I want to know which sands used here will increase mineral hardness.

If your running a sump or have enough room in your canister you can place of bag of crushed coral to buffer up the PH then find an inert black sand for substrate. Do you have enough room anywhere?

The best thing when trying to find a new brand of sand local to you is to start shopping around, write down every brand name and model etc.. then go home and research (i.e - download the MSDS "Material Safety Data Sheet", not start the trillion'th "is this safe" thread). Getting the MSDS from a given manufacturer will tell you exactly what the product consists of, % of silica used etc.. 99% of manufacturers will have an MSDS for their product as it's required by DOT when transporting large quantities of the product to validate it is not HAZ.

I ended up getting 40 lbs of the black fancy eco-complete cischlid sand... completely changed **** around... spilit up the arganite so it was half in both 55 gallon tanks.. then added 20 lbs of the black to each... looks pretty cool...:headbang2

went to Lowes and Home Depot all I found was play sand which was good and a great price for 50 pounds however I am looking for something whiter. Any suggestions?
