quickrete fine white sand

5$ 80lb bag

doesn't grow any algae, no rinse, no kick

That's really interesting. Never thought of using this. The no rinse part would have saved me half a freakin day over PFS though.

How fine is it? Do you have a pic of the bag or at least a vague description of it? I used the Quickrete "media" sand (brown bag with green writing) it was fish safe and bright white which I liked but I hated how fine it was. Even my python would suck it out of the tank. :(

Yours looks very nice though BTW!

damn that looks good, and i prefer the look of sand and the maintenannce is not bad once the sand packs the debris just stayes on the top and can be removed easily(i just stir it up once a week and i dont seem to have an algae problem either.)

seems everyone use pool, play, sand blast or lfs sand, does any one know of any other type sand ,would be interesting to see other types that have been used. oh forgot quartz also

the sand is very fine, but its heavy if that makes sense. I always cleaned my sand with a python and a tube, so if i sucked up some sand it was so cheap i just replaced it. The second it kicks up it falls down though!

even my PFS comes up with the suction tube if you are not careful so that's no biggie, if it is no wash though way better to just buy more and replace.

80lbs of pure WHITE sand :D

Thanks dude. So for Quickrete we have:
1) brown bag with green writing (bad review)
2) brown bag with red writing (good review)

All sand comes up in the tube, I was refering to leaving the top of a 20" tube.. Any other reviews on the quickrete types of sand? I read a while back a MFK member who HATED the "all purpose" type and had to remove it. I'll see if I can find the thread. Gimme a minute.

This is something I have been curious about as well. What is the benifit of having sand as opposed to having pebble or rock? Other than burrowers of course.

How would one clean the sand?

Is a special vacuum needed to do so?

some just prefer sand and others use it for certain fish(eartheaters, stingrays etc.)so it really depends. I like the look of sand and i also have fish that prefer sand. all depends on your need or want.
