Weaning Datnoids off feeders suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I never would have imagined that anything can live without food for that long. That is amazing. I worried when my fish missed one day of food. Good to know.

update: two of the three are eating cut MP but one isn't. I'm actually worried about this one, it's my most stable NTT but I don't remember the last time it ate (even when I was giving them feeders). I believe I'm nearing the 3wks mark for that particular fish not eating. Would throwing in a bunch of rosies now be a bad idea or will it be alright since they've now tasted shrimp and liked it? How can you tell when a fish NEEDs to be fed? Will they start to look bony?

EDIT: ok maybe exaggerating, more like 2 weeks.

i have had 3 different dats and they all took bloodworms right away. but i had them with other fish that were already eating the BW's. they took about 30seconds to watch the other fish gobble it up then they went crazy on it. now i cant get them to eat anything else. today i am going to try MP.

I have one NTT that devours MP now and also eats bloodworms now and then. A second NTT only eats a piece once in awhile and the third doesn't even flinch when i get near the tank to feed =(. I added an NGT with them and it seemed to really encourage them to eat the bloodworms. One thing I noticed was that it's easier to get them to eat if you make sure the pieces are small. If they pieces are too big they will spit it out, atleast mine do.
