I think he'll want the axolotl. I've never owned one I have some money and I think I buy one for myself and raise it for a while, to gain some experience with it.

I remember seeing a thread about fish with all these long filaments coming out from their necks, I just can't remember the name of the fish...

Paradise Threadfin

These are'nt weird But people will defonitly stop and look Try RopeFish and Butterflyfish :)

Would a ropefish be comfortable in a 55 gallon they get over 2 ft from my readings

I don't think people would notice a butterfly...I'd say a BGK, but they're fairly nocturnal. Axolotls are pretty cool.

+1 on African Butterfly Fish.

Polynemus paradiseus? Those are very difficult to keep alive from what I've read.

That Axolotls is pretty cool, looks like it's smiling for the camera!

The paradise Threadfin is bada$$, never seen one of those before.

Sengs get about 13", but not much bigger than that, they do get rounder though...From my readings on here, a 55 is good for life depending on what else it is stocked with. My female is ~11" and I believe full grown.

Rope fish get long, but not very big, if that makes sense...Butterfly fish are kinda timid, and if the tank has water to the top, they really won't be seen.

My vote is this guy, lol...
