:)Well, looks like your sticking with the spincaster. I got an old walkman I can sell you...

I would stick with the line that the reel recomends (not 20, i imagine) and set the drag properly. The reel should last a lot longer this way. Get some reel oil, or Reel Magic (comes in a handy spray bottle), and use before and after every trip. Get some life out of your investment. I have fished more in week then most avid fish in a year (alaskan saltwater guide here) and with proper care, most any reel should last years, even a spincast.

lol I have an ipod sitting in a drawer never used but do use a walkman I picked up couple yrs ago and prefer it .

I am going to stiock with line reel recommends this time and will pick up reel magic .

I imagine you open the reel and spray it in the working parts like wd40 which is what I used to use.

I would pair the reel with a nice stiff graphite rod with a pistol-type handle. Load it up with some fresh 10 pound monofilament and then set the drag fairly tight (you should be able to pull out line with some effort). You'll be amazed at how far you can cast compared to the 20 pound line, especially with smaller lures!

Spincast reels do have inherent drawbacks, but for the kind of fishing you scribe they will work fine. Millions of fish have been caught on $9.99 Zebco rods! :)

Your gear is the type of gear I like . If given a choice a free $1000 reel or a good spincast reel wilL opt for the spincast as suits my style.

My reel arrives Fri at the office will need a bit of practice but get ready for the spincast canal king to punish those who dare challenge my spincast reel casting ability.

I take no prisoners I simply humiliate but due to your help the humiliation will not be to severe but bad enough to make my point.

I cast like a pro with those type reels . The other reels are a horror of tangled line and other problems.

Haha youre on brother! :headbang2

Should be fun. Should we also just have a casting competition too? :D I will admit, I aint good at many things but Im good with a long rod in my hand!

Louie - haven't been on the site - about your line question - I suggest you try the Trilene XL smooth casting line. It's a mid grade line line that will do the job without breaking the bank. Stren makes a bunch of lines, I'm sure they have a comparable mid priced line.

Thanks a lot will get it reel arrived today and dont plan to fish for atleast another month will pick it up next week at basspro .

You mentioned line in another post but I didnt know which brand type to get now I do thanks.

There is a huge 60 feet deep man made lake around here owned by the Fire dept but anyone can fish there. They have sunken helicopters and cars in it used for rescue training its loaded with peacock bass and cichlids .
The same retired firemen are usually there when I go and they do enjoy laughing at my gear . Very nice guys but with correct line and reel I now hope to show them up just for kicks.
I must admit they do cast real far with their gear and catch bass way bigger than me .
