rapps are wild caught, i think that if they were f1s they wouldnt have such color at small sizes, along with being stubborn and only wanting live food, except for milioka. i was told that below waters fish are f1s and i heard it from one person, i wont mention names so unless you called and asked him yourself its a b.s. rumor that has started.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I was referring to Oliver from Below Waters, that the stock he has is F1? ( At least that is what I heard, again all hearsay, unless Oliver chimes in and states the facts).

I will re-phrase.

As for the 40 Rapps brought in I'm just curious where the others went. That is why regardless the qty that was brought in they are still rare. From the 40 how many will reach the 12" mark? presumably a low percentage.

Yes they are, but not as bold. I've seen many Monos have the spangles but not to a point where it's as bold as a true Kelberi. All, i'm saying is it wouldn't surprise me if they cross in the wild. Even with the Kelberi specie there are variants. Soon as we see the spangles we quickly relate to a Kelberi? what if it's a totally different specie.

ahh man you guys are making me worry about mines now...

No worries bro.. you will be happy I'm sure.

Bro, remember in this hobby many speculations will be said, many theories stated. When it comes down to it, it's all a waiting game. That's why we discuss and share thoughts.

Wasn't it just recently that all these new specie of PBASS named and distinctly identified as it's own specie. Back when it was just Mono, Occe, Orino and Tems?

I was watching this show on the Discovery channel over the weekend about Dogs and the origin of all the species we see today. Yet, they are all descendants of the Wolf. With all the cross breeding that took place all these centuries many eventually became it's own specie.

When the first batches of Kelberis came in (excluding Scat's as I believe his came from Japan) they came in three shipments. All from various locations. Soon after they reached good size to be properly identified they were said to be Kelberis.

Now, lets take for example the specie noted as "Madiera type sp" as pictured on this website, later to be described as Cichla Pleiozona.

One of The distinguishing feature is that of the fourth bar on the caudal peduncle. As clearly pictured on the German website. You can see evident of gold spangles. In addition the bars seem to point in a V shape.

On Fishbase it notes the following;

presence (with occasional exceptions) of dark vertical bar (bar 4) anteriorly on caudal peduncle which is typically absent in both kelberi and monoculus, and from kelberi by absence of light spots on anal and pelvic fins and lower lobe of caudal fin (Ref. 57716).

Now, take a look at one of my (what is said to be Kelberi)

The first picture is when it was smaller (7-8"). As you can see the gold spangles are just starting to develop.

The second picture (12") (bottom) the gold spangles are more pronounce and you can still see the 4th bar on the caudal peduncle. Two of what is said to be KELBERI's yet look so DIFFEREN'T. Body color differs, head shape differs and bars differ.

Now, you tell me. Possibility of Pleiozona or a mix of a Pleizona sp & Kelberi?

So what does prove? That gold spangles is not a clear cut form of identification. You want to get scientific than we need to start counting the scales. Anyways, just thinking outside the box and see what peoples thoughts are.

Also, this point is directed to my mentor Red....come out the closet and post you freak.... I know you'll see this...HAHAHAHAHA.... =-P

This is something that we battle about over the phone..hahahahaha
