that was a stupid bass, although i have caught them on bread. But anchovie is normally a horrible bass bait although every once an a while one will hit it.

bs, those bass must be hand fed. we are talking about largemouth right? 2-3 is not that many, they are probably bycatch while catfishing

but i average about 10-30 a day where im at. thats with lures
and yes top waters do have a limited strike zone in dirty water and when fish are not as active ... but in clear water and this time of year they are a smart chioce to cover water. i have seen bass come out of 30 ft of water to eat a spook. multiple times.

I have caught few 3-4lbers on kernel corns that were intended for bluegills during hot summer when the river gets low. However most LMB seems biting on broze rapala especially around the mouth of rivers that flows into the lake.
live bait is not fishing its called catching, there is no tactic your basicaly cheatin. my temp changes hour by hour day by day probably the hardest area on the east coast to catch lrg mouth in the spring because the water temp is goin up and down all the time one day it could be 45 and rianing next day could be 81 and sunny . i have caught about 10 lrg mouth so far . how i caught them was waiting till the sun leaves where it was warmin up the water all day leavin the fish active and hungry and finding shallow weedy areas then throwing out a small swim bait or a fake plastic minnow using a dying effect to lure them,. Also throwing out a floating rapala twiching like a dying fish on top of water and twitching it then reeling it slowly. most lrg mouths i caught wher little males but i did get a 3 1/2 pound female nothin big yet.

When I spend $400-500 on fuel for my boat to go offshore and fish tuna, you better be sure I will pick up live bait from the receiver for $25.
You get 40-50miles offshore to find out the tuna are only biting on live bait, and won't touch a jig..... you are SOL.
Some days they will hit the lures (tuna jig). However, some days they will only accept live bait. I have learned this lesson first hand, and felt like a fool.
A true fishermen always comes prepared for every situation.
I even bring live bait when fishing freshwater bass.
I don't know where you get off saying live bait is cheating. Obviously it is a bold statement, and you do not know what you are talking about.
Even when fishing live bait, there is a lot of technique involved.
Which it appears you are not aware of.
