WHat cichlid to breed in a 29 gallon?

You can't grow out angel fry to a sellable size in a 29 gallon tank with their parents. Like I said before, the problem with cichlids is that if you're raising out fish to sell, you're going to need more than one small tank.

A lot of people get into fish breeding to make money but that's a hard thing to do. Even with lots of food and water changes, it's still going to take you 10 - 14 weeks to get most cichlids to a size where you can sell them. Now figure you need a decent-sized grow out tank, plus food and water for 10 - 14 weeks... are you really making any money?

Just some food for thought.

It will probably be only a few bucks tops to raise babies a month. I do got a few spare tanks to break out. I got extra filters and heaters. I am not trying to breed on a large scale and I am not trying to get rich. Breeding is not the entire focus here either. I just would prefer a fish that has babies worth something rather than a fish like cons where their babies are worthless.

ok"" so convicts are 10 a penney!!

if i wonted something for a 29 gal tank"" and make me money back""

top 5 cichlids!

Nandopsis labridens( Media luna) stunning yellow/black breeding dress!
Nandopsis Bartoni""
Caquetaia Spectabile"" (like a small umbee) but better shine on scales!
Blue strain jack dempsey!! will always sell them!
Nandopsis Salvini"" Lake species as more red colouring!!

I have thought of both salvini and EBJD/BGJD. The others I am not so familiar with. I will look them up. I know salvini's are easy. I had a female laying eggs all the time. Will JDs tear up plants though?

These fish will all ultimately grow too large for a 29 gallon.

Should be cool mate for 29 gall tank"" around 6-7 inch for males!! be ok if a true pair mate!!

Guess it all depends on if you want just a bare breeding tank or if you want it to be a display tank. If you're going with a bare breeding tank then it might work provided the pair don't get too aggressive with each other.

These types of tanks, however, are not generally setup with the fish's well-being in mind but rather they are setup with the bare minimum that the fish require to survive.
