What did I get myself into..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn’t doubt he’d make it to their wild sizes if kept properly and given enough time. Fish aren’t like us. They don’t max out in their first quarter of their lifespan. They continuously grow. You’ve got a nice fish there though. I look forward to updates on it

The eels aren't like other catfish, they grow pretty much their whole lives given proper conditions, they however are one of the fish that stunt easily

Nice I've come across, s. Burmanensis "orange" for sale once, or at least that was the label

Its honestly something else. Even when I had Ompoks they didn't swim like this it was way more erratic. I can't believe either the way he can bend. I've seen him turn into a U a few times no problem.

Just added a few rocks into the tank so he has somewhere to hang out other then the ceramic pot that is too small for him. Also fed sinking carnivore this morning which he took no problem.

Is that a Wels in your avatar?

yes, his name was Wheatus. I only found out what he was after he died and i showed his pic to somebody. I was so cut up when he died ;_; he was my wet pet.

He died because one day he jumped out of my holding pond when I had to move him out of there cause I was moving soon to another home. I came out the next morning and found him lying dead in the mud next to it...one of the worst days of my life.

Back when he was a baby and I had him in a growing tank I would sometimes go into the room where he was in his tank at night and watch him in the near dark, so I would get to see him swimming around all over the place...beautiful

I still kick myself to this day over not just putting a net over the top of the holding pond...don't ever think a fish jumping just "probably won't happen"...it could.

Picture update during a water change. Ive been doing twice a week 50% WC and he seems to appreciate. Not much to report other than I have the light on for 4 hours a day now. I can tell he isn’t the biggest fan of it but he’ll have to deal with it. Same with activity. Once I’m near the tank or someone’s around he hides but the minute they leave he’s non stop around the tank.

If he's anything like a wels he will be pretty shy. After a while getting used to new tank my wels would start coming out more but they were never very active during the day, they liked to hide then come out when it was dark, when they would be swimming all over the place. If the hiding places were good enough though during the day you would have never even known there was a catfish in the tank at all. I had one that hid somewhere I could not figure out for weeks then finally realised she/he had found out how to get underneath one of the big log cave decorations in there and she/he had been hiding under it the whole time. To this day I'm not sure how they managed it, there was only a thin layer of pebble substrate under it too and they continued to do this till they were over 8 inches long and it was only a 55 gallon tank.

Nice pic!

Just came home for lunch and before returning to work I checked my fish. Sure enough tank was empty I scramble check the spots then find him in the stand semi dry but breathing. Tossed him right back in he sank immediately to the bottom still breathing. Breathing has increased but he’s tipping on his side. Cannot believe this guy managed to jump out. Really can’t. He’s on his side now. Not looking good.
