No I read through most of the thread. Loved the part where reverse made you look dumb. Ah well. Still thinking that since the economy is failing a job in economics doesn't seem so bright.

Wow, no offense man I normally appreciate your cynicism, but for a thread that has been going pretty well, you kinda of just threw some mud all over it, and really for no reason than to say "nah nah, I have a job and you don't".

My bad, I am just saying there are better options where experience isn't always necessary.

I know what you mean, but jobs are tight all over right now, and it's tough when you don't know which way to go. I am at a job right now that really isn't my favorite, and it doesn't pay that great, but dropping it and attempting to go someplace else is a risky proposistion right now, because at a new place I could be one of the first cuts if need be.

And on the intern tip, I don't know about you guys, but I would love to intern, but realistically, it just won't pay the bills. I'd like to intern somewhere in a field I really enjoy, but it just isn't an option. It may be for the op (assumption), but not for all of us.

Do you have a resume? Is it posted on the MANY online job sights?

Dude, you are an idiot. Plain and simple. He did not make me "look dumb." I stopped arguing with him. Every bank has/needs an economist. He says he gets those figures from a separate company. Hey genius, who works for that company? Just because you do not have a person who is "the economist" does not mean you do not have economists working for you.

And you really REALLY are an idiot for saying "Still thinking that since the economy is failing a job in economics doesn't seem so bright." I mean, seriously?:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: Now is when we are needed most. Now is when BEA is scrambling for new ideas. My problem is in no way shape or form my degree, idiot. My problem is my lack of experience.

No go ahead and come back with some witty, smart ass response, that shows everyone the person you are: A cynical loser, who has attempts to make everyone else depressed b/c you hate your life. But it doesn't matter. B/c I am done responding to you. I have tried being civil to you in the past. You don't want it. You just want to sit there, and feel superior. I will let you think you have won.

How were you trying to get a job before, if you had no resume?

A college degree does not make a person employable. When it comes to getting a job, some degrees are totally useless. I speak from personal experience. People going to school should check out whether or not their field of study is going to increase the likelihood of them getting a good job. My father encouraged me to go into nursing, saying that I could go anywhere from there. I didn't listen and majored in biology. What can you do with a degree in biology?....I then went and got a Master of Public Health degree in Health Administration, and finished when there were hiring freezes everywhere. With no work related experience, I did stand a chance of landing a job even remotely connected to my field of study. I got a job as a clerk typist for L.A. County (entry level, ha ha) and decided to work on a doctorate in health science. (what can you do with that?) I had 13 units to go, and had nagging self-doubts and a major concern that with a doctorate, maybe all I was qualified for was typing (my only job experience)..I took a leave of absence from my doctoral program and decided that what I needed was a good job skill. At that point, I applied to dental school. With a dental degree, I at last had a marketable job skill.

There are industries where people can make a decent living without any college experience. Corrections is one such field. Here's the pay scale for a correctional officer in California:

PEACE OFFICER SALARIES
Correctional Officer / Youth Correctional Officer
Range A = $3,050 (This monthly rate shall apply to individuals while attending the Basic Correctional Officer Academy/Basic Correctional Juvenile Academy)
Range J = $3,774 - (Successful completion of the Basic Correctional Officer Academy/Basic Correctional Juvenile Academy)
Range K = $6,144 (Top step of pay scale)
Minimum Requirements:
US Citizenship (or applied)
21 years old
U.S. HS Diploma/GED
Good physical condition
No felony convictions
Eligible to own/possess a firearm

I should have listened to my father and become a nurse....I could have worked part-time as a nurse instead of as a typist when I went through dental school.

When push comes to shove, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and take any job, if that's what it takes to pay the rent. It doesn't seem right that a person with a GED and a clean slate can start off at 45,000+ a year, and has the potential of climbing very high in the system. (Many go to school and get degrees while they work) Teachers start out at a lot less. Corrections is a field with great potential and has job security. Afterall, crime and criminals are a certainty along with death and taxes. Those of you who are at a dead end should check out the field of corrections.

By just finished, I did not mean like now. I meant about 2 weeks ago.

And I have not tried to get a job yet. I made the post expressing my frustration over the fact that I do not meet any of the qualifications of the jobs I am finding; they all require masters or higher.
