Wow, Wild Bill, you are taking this way out of context. Keeping a bird un-clipped is not exactly a revolutionary and extremist idea. Many bird keepers do not clip wings, and I for one never will. Your bird won't fly out of a door or window if you are careful. For instance, as I said Chubby (my parrot) has an in-home aviary. He also has run of the house while I'm home, when I'm home I make sure windows are closed and doors are locked, to insure nobody will barge in. It's not that hard and I really am offended that you think my methods of bird-keeping are inhumane, I can guarantee it is much more humane than clipping a bird and forcing it to live a sedentary life. In the wild parrots fly many miles a day, it's not fair to just keep them as decorations just because they are colorful and may learn to talk.
This doesn't sound like a PETA thread at all, PETA is extremist, they don't want anyone owning ANY pets. My philosophy is that keeping pets is fine, if you do your research and are committed to giving them good lives. I hardly think talking about the most humane way to keep fish is detrimental to the hobby. My God..
Also, I previously explained what the poster probably meant by "consent". Consent means not chasing your fish around the tank with your hands for your own pleasure (in order to pet it, poke it, hold it, etc). There are a LOT of people who do this, surprisingly. I've seen it in kids and adults who are not educated about fish care. Taking your fish out in order to medicate it, clean the tank, move tanks, etc is perfectly fine.
