What do you believe is cruelty or abuse when it comes to fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ohh a pet peeve of mine, I have 6 kids, we do not tap the tank, we do not run our fingers across the tank. we do not touch the tanks. we are welcome to say hello and observe.

Personally, i dont think birds should be kept as pets. The idea of clipping the wings of a creature with the ability to fly makes my stomach turn.

I think the golden rule applies to all pets. If you would enjoy being your pet, then its probably ok. With obvious exceptions.

+100000000000 about the birds. I wouldnt care if the standard for birdkeeping was a huge area it can fly around in, like a 10x10x10 enclosure.. but its clipping wings and putting them in cages that they can barely stretch in.

These things i consider fish abuse

- tank too small for fish w/o plans on upgrading soon
-underfeed
-power feed for faster growth
-lack of WCs/poop siphoning
-fish fighting as bloodsport (i guess thats a thing... like pitting 2 fish against each other you know will death fight.. kind of like dog fighting)
-flushing live fish is a HUGE one for me, if you dont have the decency to kill the thing before letting it die in the poop of the person who was supposed to take care of it, just give up on keeping pets. If you for some reason ABSOLUTELY have to kill it, put it in a bag and slam it on the toilet seat or decapitate
-fish tattoo, piercing, dying (as in coloring)
-ice dipping (i guess discus breeders in asia dip the fins of discus in ice cold water to produce the black trim, while german its genetic, as far as i know)
-taking a side trip on your way back from getting a live fish (like going to the grocery after the lfs)
-giving improper diet (like feeding all meat to pacu)

And id love to explain :) When you put a fish in a tank, you confine a fishs swimming room yes. But when you clip the wings of a bird, you take away its way of transportation completly, and you force it to walk, or sit on a stick all day. For me that is different, and would be like putting a 20" fish in a 20" Width tank, or clipping the fins off a fish and forcing it to just get carried by the stream.... For me its very different.

Is your problem with keeping birds clipping the wings or keeping birds in general? Because if it's keeping birds in general then I'm gonna call you hypocrite.

morning ehh and ouch!!! :nilly:

Any fish, coral, etc that is not breed in captivity basically nothing gathered from the wild
Why? resopnsible collecting has done nothing to population of wild fish, its do to the over fish for food where you see population drops. Wild fish need to be brought into the hobby to keep the blood line fresh so we don't end up with inbred deformed fish.
