Tap water....water source is quite clean. Goes from the shower into a tub...and pumped into my tank. NO chems at all.

you've sent it out and got it tested?

I didnt have a good job. My first setup was ghetto and it was softies.

I was talking to my mom one day about how I wanted a SW aquarium, and how I couldnt get one because of how pricey they were. She said that sometimes people left the hobby and had to get rid of their stuff cheap. Just then we pulled up at a stop light and next to our car, passenger side, was a sign for a garage sale. Included was a 55g SW aquarium setup. We drove over. He gave me "everything" for $100. Over the years, "everything" has been replaced. I spent $1500 on equipment alone two summers ago on one tank.

Now because I dedicated my personal, and educational life to the study and keeping of fish...Im being rewarded by overseeing volunteers and employees that care for aquaria at our university. Guess what I use on campus for reefs. RODI. This is because h2o quality testing says I should. There. Done for real now.

Yes...our city water has chemicals in it obviously. On top of that the nitrates in the city are also too high (present). Therefore I use rodi in the lab (we have a faucet for it.)

thats awesome!

so you filter the water, then must store it in a large container then from there to a faucet?

way easier then 6 gallon bucket transportation. i wish i could have the ro/di in the fish room

The building has rodi...its like in chemistry labs you have faucets for distilled water or whatever? Well our science building uses rodi. So theres a knob next to the sink and lots of hose. We also use some on the planted tank display we have....but that is a 50/50 mix I think.
