what does this look like to you

I would get some good pictures first. I don't know how you guys make any assumptions based on those pictures. It's nice to have meds and you should have them but give the kid a break. He's on a fish forum and trying pretty dam hard. Most would let the fish die and blame the fish store and just get their credit back or turn it back in.

My shark had a bit of swelling when I added some new rocks in the tank and his belly was red. Took him a day to learn to navigate the tank and the swelling went down. The swimming at the top of the tank is good, especially if he is aware of obstacles. If its drunk swimming its no good.

I would like to see a full tank shot, I just think you have to much rock work in the tank.. How many lbs do you have? Also do you have a test kit for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? Also whats your salintiy like.

I find keeping good water params and a good tank works better than any medications. Still medicate the tank but lets make sure your making it the most effective..

Also just chill out a bit, I think your stress is stressing everyone else out. Just keep posting all your questions in this thread and don't make a whole bunch. People will be happy to help you out and it will be easier to refer to earlier posts.

Good luck buddy.

I also would remove the pistol shrimp as he could be doing the damage to your sharks tail. I read an article about how their claws when slammed together can replicate the heat of the sun. It could be attacking your sharks tail. Watch the video below.

I think that now its out there that he's a kid, its a lot easier for me to cut him some slack. If he was say, in his thirtys and freaking out like that I can see being a little harsh

Anyway I know the pictures are not so good but I am sure he has a baterial infection going on. I have seen the tail look like that in quite a few different sharks and watched it turn into a major problem.

And tust me I too wish him lots of luck.

I just figured I would blanket that out there. He seems like a good kid thats really trying. Get those meds and treat that tank. Then lets work on your tank params, filtration, tank layout and size. That way we can prevent this from happening again.

Also lets work on those better pictures, it would help a lot! Who knows it could just be the rocks messing with his stomach and the shrimp grabbing at his tail. Make sure to medicate but better pictures could reveal something less serious. I just tend to play by the following ...Prepare for worst hope for the best.

well the shark died this morning , took it pretty hard, i only have about 10 pounds of rock in the tank , 5 pounds on each side of the tank ,he was swimming at the top of the tank last night , and i woke up to a really sad scene , I Was trying very hard to help this poor shark out , he was in a 30 gallon tank at the store , so I thought if I put him in my tank , he could of had a second chance at life, I'm really sorry for any problems that I have caused you guys , but thankyou so much for all your help :(

Sorry to hear about that.

It's especially sad since you put so much in an attempt to save the shark. But if it helps - it sounds like it was a pretty sick little shark before you got it. Given that you only had it for about 4 days.

But hopefully you'll look at all this as learning situation. And continue to learn even more about keeping sharks.

I did, I'm actually thinking about not putting live rock , and making my own type of base out of like a aquarium reef safe foam or something ,like a DYI live rock kinda thing aha !
