yeah algae is pretty easy to deal with when you dont have plants. its get much more complicated in a planted tank where any little imbalance will cause an algae explosion

That's part of the problem, the tank is planted. The stuff came in on some anacharis.

To whoever posted it, the thing called algae eaters eat fish body slime - very little algae,

No, that's an issue with Chinese algae eaters (CAE), not SAE which are not aggressive. Just make sure you get the right one.

I am getting a few RCS, I guess they will help out as well then.

IDK man my poly is the size of my pinky and eats ghost shrimp, they are about the same size as RCS and all I see them as are snacks. I really think the Otos stand a better chance but that is just MHO

Ok. Perhaps I will only add ottos into this tank. I have another tank, a 29 Gallon high, that has the same problem. In this tank are 3 ID sharks (3"+/-) and 3 2.5 inch tinfoil barbs. Would otto's do well in this tank? How many should I stock?

Fei Feng...
I agree. I got a fei feng (also called a flag tail or flag tailed prochilodus) in sept. It's still fairly small, but is the best algae eater I've had. It keeps the glass spotless (except for a few spots it can't reach behind filter tubes, driftwood, etc.) and keeps most of the driftwood algae free too. I can't say how they do with plants though (with the exception of hornwart-most fish don't touch it, probably due to it's rather prickly texture), but I have yet to see my fei feng touch another fish's slimecoat. They also take algae pellets and flakes as well as normal tropical flakes if they run out of algae

Hmmm I have 1 oto in my 29 gallon but I have little community fish and like 4 different species of shrimp. They max out around maybe 2 inches or so. Maybe start with 2 and see if they help out any?
