Are you going to cover and heat it?
My pond is 4 1/2 feet deep(southern MN) I cover, heat, and have a bubbler in mine over the winter. I really don’t think anything should be kept out in 2’.

suggestion would be a good option. If you only kept a few you could bring them in for the winter then. Or dig deeper, cover and heat to keep them outside all winter.
