Are some fish overhyped?

For me it's arowanas, pacu and dovii...

Arowanas just swim the top back and forth, like a clock pendulum. Don't get the fascination.

Now Pacu's do have personality but to me they're big, clutzy and UGLY. Ditto giant gouramis.

Dovii, okay, a macho fish. Teeth, tough, big, we get it. Beats up everything, big whoop. Don't find them good looking at all. Look like mooks with huge heads. If getting bit is a turn on, go for it.

What's your overrated fish?

Personally, arowanas, rays and anything albino or platinum. They don't interest me one iota. That said, a lot of people do like these fish and that is brilliant in my book.

It would be a very boring forum to be part of if everyone had the same taste in fish. And anyway, over the years who's to say ones tastes don't change.

Anything that won't behave normally when I'm there. I like when the fish welcome me and beg for food, but I want to be able to sit and watch them live without holding the fish's attention. Some cichlids and rainbows and others are really bad. They run up and down the glass whenever they see you, even when they're not hungry.
I also don't like pelagic fish, like SDs, or Haps, or Pbass, or Fronts, or arowanas, because they need really big tanks to act normally, and in most tanks either just hover strangely, or, as FINWIN FINWIN said, become living pendulums.

i'm not sure there's any fish that i'm not especially fond of. there are fish i want to keep more than others, but i've never really had that feeling of "x is overrated" or "y is boring to watch".

honestly one of my favorite things to do is visit my friends who keep fish and see something different. something that i myself wouldn't keep, but it's nice to watch them for a change. i really dig seeing other people's passion for their fish as well.

but alright... if you really pushed me to point out a fish that is rock bottom of my list of what i want to keep it'd probably be any kind of saltwater. i just love freshwater environments and the fish that live in them.

Parrot fish of any variety, not speaking of the true parrot.
Oscars, this is probably the most abused fish second only to feeders!
Oh and short bodied anything!
