What fish just don't "do it" for You?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Saltwater. Some of the fish are cool but the aquascapes usually just look like a bunch of barnacles to me, and that's before you even start talking about all the extra expense and effort they take. I had a small saltwater tank a few years ago and enjoyed certain things about it, but I don't think I'd do it again unless I could keep something really interesting like an octopus or a shark.

I'm also starting to lose interest in anything overly aggressive (said the guy with a lenticulata pike avatar and Malawi cichlid tank). It's not very relaxing to watch fish getting bullied.

African cichlids (except for tanganyicans) Never kept any, and I don't plan to change that.

Livebearers (guppies mollies etc..) They are just dull and boring to me.

Hybrids, I think that there are many beautiful species of fish around.

Short bodied or other intentionally deformed fish

I havent cared nor taken care of many of the fish stated, AND one thing for sure is some fish do take a while to get use to, even if you dont own them. So Uaru i always liked, the big peaceful moody nature is very attractive for me, and its not as common as discus. I have Uaru cf.sf.A Orange. I love peaceful cichlids and fish that are very unique and have there own behavior. Like my Cochus BLUE tetra is SEVERELY UNDERRATED. THey are so active and behave so uniquly in the current compared o my older tetras.

What I dont like are fish that are TOO aggressive to even go in with any tank mates what so ver. Like Vieja are not in that catagory. Too agro fish would be.......... Many(But not all by far) Pike cichlids, the smalle species go around picking fights they can't win and one ended up dying. I am actually happy that most non-mainstream fishs are the best fishs, so my tank looks exotic even to regular aqariests. Like Guianacaras, Hoplos, Uaru, Certain tetras, Curare Severums (The only good looking one), Pinecone Pleocs, etc. One thing is sometimes from just watching videos and seeing pictures and reading about a fish it can grow on you. I though Eques Corys were ugly, they resembled a bronze cory too much. But after i started to notice the white underbelly, the much more perfect looking irredesence, the more sloped head, AND the bright yellow spot that is even more prevalent then any other corys, more then adolfois and dulicarious. plus aquarium Glasser theorizes that the yellow spot is for the school of fishs to stay together rin blackwater environment.

When comes to looks there is 2 things i noticed, there are eye-catching looks and elegant looks. Elegant looks are like Uaru, they aren't all that colorful but they have a royal look almost, the perfection of the orange, dark blue spot, the large fins, and the lining of iridescence.

Plecos. I only owned one because a Petsmart employee said I needed one to eat the algae in my tank(this was years ago before I did research on my own). I remember thinking how ugly the bristlenose pleco looked. All they do is poop a ton and are ugly as hell to me.

Also, any genetically modified fish such as glo fish.
Interesting, the name under your name is plecostomus.

For me mostly any kind of fish that's not at least semi-interactive with me: if they're interactive they're pets; if not they're just fish swimming around in a tank. I can still admire non-interactive fish but I generally wouldn't keep them.
