But fishkeeping is different than other hobbies, say, RC'ing, coin collecting, dog breeding, whatever...the health of the fish is directly related to the owner...and the victims if the owner makes a mistake are living animals. I'm not trying to go PETA, but in perspective...the fish are the only victim. When a bad or ignorant owner kills a fish, he goes out and buys more, and that's it. But the fish...?

Very true! I completely agree! And I don't think Alex should get any more fish! And I think his tank is overstocked to hell, but what I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't tell him that he's not going to be able to provide for his fish. He said he's going to have a pond, that could very well provide for his fish...Or it might not. Everything must be taken with a grain of salt. We shouldn't tell him what to do, or even tell him that what he's doing is not going to work when he say's it can. Everyone has different "style's" of raising fish. I don't agree with heavily overstocked aquariums run by spongefilters, but people seem to be able to work wonders with them. So who are we to say that what Alex is doing is all wrong? If he doesn't upgrade soon, that's an entirely different story. It's going to go downhill quick. But if he says he is getting a 300, and then a pond, we should let him do what he wants, right? As long as the pond is big enough, and he separates some of his current stock

If I was going to add one thing to this thread, this would be it. And it is quite personal for me. Listening Alex?
You know our sister site, Aquaria Central?
Well, that is where I turned for help with my first ever fish and tanks. I was very naive, hard headed, and basically a d-bag. I acted as if I was an expert, while talking to people who have had more experience keeping fish than I have had on this earth. This was about cycling. CYCLING! The first thing you learn about in fishkeeping. That was over a year ago, and you know, I still have that reputation to some people at AC. I still can't make it right in the eyes of some of the experts. Even though I am much more experienced now, I still have that reputation. Our advice is just as fundamental, and your response is just as flammatory, if not more. I am telling you this to help you. No one in this thread has said anything that is meant to do anything but help you. Please take our advice to heart. None of us here will loose or gain anything if you do, or do not, get more fish. We don't work for any fish stores, and we will not profit if you do, or die if you don't. All we are doing is looking out for the fish that we all know and love. And what is good for the fish can't be bad for the owner, right?

!:iagree:Very well said!:clap
What this all comes down to is our love for this hobby, or lifestyle, if you will. We all just want to help, and we all need help every now and then!

I vote for this one...

I voted for the loaches... A whole gang of them!!!!

The only thing i wanted to say which i don't think any one here has mentioned yet is, no body knows whats going to happen in the near future, so as much as its very possible he could upgrade to the 300G then to a pond... it may also just completely fall through... just think about it the stock market crashes that have thrown so many people into turmoil in the past...

So Alex, if you are still reading these posts, don't take this the wrong way, but sometimes its better to be actually prepared and ready before jumping into the deep end and realizing you can't swim... coz i'm guessing its your parents who are paying for all this, and since that is the case, you just don't know what may or may not happen in the future...

But, on the other hand, if you are already in the process of building the 300G as well as physically planning out the pond then i take back all that i just said, as well as want to wish you the best of luck with your stock and that your very fortunate to have parents willing to give you such a setup...

First off, I am paying for everything...
And secondly, I didn't need three pages of info!
