The book uses the word 'delicate' and I totally agree with that. Picky eaters, I had to hand feed it each day, wedging feeders under its disc. Disc thinness imo relates more to young rays than adults.

yep and the 3rd sentence of that same paragraph says,

'' Also, their fin, or disc, is thinner and more delicate then that of large-eyed rays, and they seem to be sensitive to irritation from substrates. ''

the book says absolutely nothing about young rays being the thinner disc ones, its speaking in general. however, im sure that a mature china ray has a thicker disc obviously.

what you just quoted from the book is a bit different to what you said earlier and imo changes the sense of it completely.

There is book learning and hands-on learning. I can only speak about the rays I have owned, including the big one in the photo and several more young ones that I supplied to the guy that you are quoting. Just sayin...........

nothing changes or changed.... there's 2 different sentences stating how delicate a China ray's disc is.. sentence 1 of paragraph 3 on page 82, '' the China and Ceja rays are more delicate in captivity than large-eyed rays ''

and then sentence 3 of paragraph 3 on page 82, '' Also, their fin, or disc, is thinner and more delicate then that of large-eyed rays, and they seem to be sensitive to irritation from substrates. ''

im not gonna argue about this anymore, lets just do the mature thing and drop it right now.

i see a battle of the armchairs forming......

daved and stingrays1 please do not argue with the experts... it will end in a head for you guys....

theirs discs are much thinner and weaker then large eyed stingrays, i.e. motoros and leos etc etc.

:)
your actual words. I was mostly debating your use of 'thinner and weaker...motoros and leos etc', which i.m.e they are not, although their body profile is different. anyhoo, no matter, semantics I guess. no need for handbags.

Tails are very long and thin like a shoe lace and raspy ( and very fragile) , no real stinger. These rays are a big pain to keep going and no way would I recommend them for anyone as a tank pet.
